Peel Region announces 2025 recipients of the Circular Economy Initiatives Fund

BRAMPTON, ON (May 1, 2025) – Peel Region is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Circular Economy Initiatives Fund, which supports not-for-profit organizations working on innovative circular economy initiatives in Peel. The selected organizations have demonstrated exceptional commitment to reducing waste and creating sustainable solutions within the community.

This new fund, managed by Peel Region’s Waste Management division, offers grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 to community-based organizations across the region. The fund supports innovative initiatives that contribute to reducing, reusing, and reclaiming waste, helping to create a more sustainable future for Peel.

The 2025 fund recipients include:

Help a Girl Out
The Reusables Project focuses on reusable hygiene products and the destigmatization of menstruation. It conducts sewing workshops and provides materials for volunteer sewists to create reusable pads, which are donated to those experiencing period poverty.

Knights Table
The EcoSmart - Appliance Repair and Food Waste Reduction Project works to repair and redistribute donated non-functioning appliances to individuals in need. Additionally, the project establishes a composting program at their food bank and soup kitchen. Thus, diverting both appliances and food waste from landfill.

Peel Career Assessment Services
The Tech Refurbishment and Reuse Program extends the life of electronic devices by refurbishing donated technology and lending it to vulnerable communities, while educating participants on proper electronic waste management.

Peel Multicultural Council
The HUB Project (Helping-U-Bike!) collects discarded bicycles and refurbishes them to provide to community members in need. The project also hosts public workshops on bicycle repair.

Samaritan's Feet Canada
The Footwear Refurbishment Initiative collects discarded footwear, refurbishes them, and will redistribute 10,000 pairs to vulnerable communities in Peel.

The Dam – Develop Assist Mentor
The Circular Economy - Youth Partnership Project engages youth in researching circular economy topics, developing and implementing projects, and evaluating their impact, empowering youth to tackle environmental issues they are passionate about.
