Peel Region to advocate for provincial support on several priorities

Body

Brampton, ON. (Aug. 18, 2023) - Peel Region’s delegation consisting of the Regional Chair, members of Regional Council and staff will be attending the 2023 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference, August 20-23 in London, Ontario.

Every year, Peel participates in AMO's premier event, which provides Ontario municipalities with a forum for conversation with provincial decision-makers regarding ongoing challenges. The conference also offers opportunities for collaboration and learning through numerous workshops and information sessions.

Peel's delegation will meet with provincial cabinet ministers and senior staff to discuss matters impacting Peel and find solutions for the community's most challenging issues, such as municipal fiscal sustainability, affordable housing, health care, and climate change.

Peel's delegation will be meeting with several provincial leaders and officials, including:

  • The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Long Term Care, to discuss the challenges seniors are facing and advocate funding requirements to support the expansion of community support services.
  • The Honourable David Piccini, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, to apply a climate lens to economic stimulus investments and invest in sustainable energy generation to ensure decarbonization is prioritized as part of plans for economic expansion and growth.
  • The Honourable Michael Tibollo, Minister of Mental Health and Addiction Services, to advocate for targeted, specific sustainable investments to Peel's community-based mental health and addiction services to address growing waitlists.

The delegation will also be meeting with ministers and officials from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Infrastructure.
