Peel Region to advocate for provincial support on key priorities at AMO conference
BRAMPTON, Ont. – August 15, 2025. Peel Region’s delegation consisting of the Regional Chair, members of Peel Region Council and senior staff will be attending the 2025 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference, August 17-20 in Ottawa to advocate for Peel’s critical needs.
The AMO conference provides an important opportunity for municipalities to engage directly with provincial leaders on shared priorities and local challenges and to work together towards solutions.
During this year’s conference, Peel’s team will advocate for the critical needs of Peel residents and businesses, such as increased funding for social services, infrastructure to support housing growth, and supports for mental health and asylum claimants.
Peel’s delegation will be meeting with several provincial ministers and officials, including:
- Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance, to advocate for a renewed provincial partnership that ensures the delivery of essential services, addresses the underfunding of provincially mandated services for Peel residents and maintains long-term fiscal stability.
- Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, to emphasize the need for sustained investments in affordable housing, capital repairs, and supportive programs to effectively respond to homelessness and Peel’s housing crisis.
- Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure, to highlight the critical need for stable, long-term infrastructure funding to offset development charge shortfalls and enable the delivery of essential infrastructure that supports housing and population growth.
The delegation will also be meeting with ministers and senior officials from the Ministry of Long-Term Care; Ministry of Health; Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development; and the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.
The conference also offers valuable opportunities for collaboration and learning through a variety of workshops and information sessions.
