Peel receives OPWA Project of the Year Award for Belfountain Project

BRAMPTON, ON (September 15, 2025) - Earlier this year, Peel Region received the Project of the Year Award from the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA) in the Historical Restoration/Preservation category for the Belfountain Rehabilitation & Corridor Improvements Project.
The project enhanced the infrastructure, safety, and streetscaping of Belfountain while preserving the rich heritage of the community, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. Key upgrades included parkette reconstruction, pavement rehabilitation, slope stabilization, culvert upsizing, and the replacement of aging assets. These improvements enhanced safety for both pedestrians and motorists, while maintaining the Village’s picturesque aesthetic. Throughout the project, Peel closely collaborated with local community groups, Indigenous partners, cultural heritage specialists, streetscaping architects, and engineers. The project’s communication strategy ensured the community was made aware of progress and exemplified successful collaboration between the agency, consultant, and contractor to achieve Peel’s objectives while maintaining the community’s interests.
The OPWA Project of the Year Award celebrates excellence in management and administration and recognizes the connection between the managing agency, consultants, engineers, and contractors whose collaboration results in the successful completion of public works projects.
