Inaugural meeting of Council

The newly elected Council will be officially sworn in and begin its term at the Inaugural meeting on November 19, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in Council Chambers at 10 Peel Centre Dr., Suite A, 5th floor, in Brampton.

The meeting will be open to the public and livestreamed on Peel Region's website.

Role of Peel Region Council

Council makes decisions about many of the services residents rely on every day. The newly elected Council will set priorities and help shape these services over the next 4 years. They review reports, ask questions, debate issues and vote on recommendations that guide Peel Region’s work.

Regional Chair

Under Ontario's Better Regional Governance Act, 2026 (Bill 100), the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing will appoint the Regional Chair for Peel Region and 7 other upper-tier municipalities. It is expected that this will occur following the municipal election held on October 26, 2026. The Regional Chair leads Peel Region Council and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Peel Region.

Committees and Advisory Boards

In the weeks following the Inaugural meeting, Council members will also be appointed to committees and advisory boards. These groups focus on specific matters or concerns, review information in greater detail and make recommendations to Peel Region Council.

Starting November 2, residents interested in volunteering to serve on select Peel Region committees can apply via Peel Region’s website.

Stay involved

Residents are encouraged to follow the work of Peel Region Council throughout the term. Council and committee meetings are open to the public and available online. Residents can review agendas and minutes, watch meetings live or on demand, and request to speak to Council or a committee on issues that matter to them.
