Mandatory water use restrictions now in effect for Bolton
BRAMPTON, ON (Aug. 7, 2025) – At approximately 4 p.m. today, a significant watermain break occurred north of Mayfield Road on Coleraine Drive.
Although the community continues to receive service, overall water consumption in the area will need to be reduced to maintain service levels until repairs can be completed. This conservation effort will also help with the water supply during the repair process.
To help maintain limited water flow in the community during this time, all outdoor water use must stop immediately, and indoor water use must be minimized.
These restrictions are mandatory for up to the next 72 hours and apply to all residents, businesses, municipal recreation centres and operations, landscaping partners, golf courses, and other facilities in Bolton. They override any previously shared information regarding outdoor water use.
Your cooperation is essential. Limiting water use during this time will help ensure an adequate supply for drinking, cooking, firefighting, and other critical needs, while reducing pressure on the system as repairs are made.
The following is NOT allowed during this emergency:
Don't:
- Use a hose to water lawns, gardens, flowers, and gardens. Use water from a rain barrel, if available, instead.
- Wash windows, sidewalks, driveways, or vehicles.
- Fill decorative fountains, ponds, pools, or hot tubs.
- Use water for construction purposes like grading and dust control.
- Use automatic irrigation systems.
- Have outdoor fires.
The following is encouraged to limit indoor and non-essential water use:
In the kitchen:
- Use or wipe plates clean rather than rinsing.
- Fill a jug of water and leave it in the fridge rather than running the tap.
- Use your dishwasher and washing machine with full loads only.
- Turn off humidifiers and automatic ice makers.
In the bathroom:
- Keep the tap turned off while brushing your teeth.
- Have showers instead of baths. If having a bath, keep the water shallow.
- Limit showers to three minutes.
- Flush the toilet less often.
- Put a bucket in the shower to catch water while it’s heating up, then use the water for other needs.
Residents and businesses in Bolton must follow and support these restrictions. They are necessary to maintain sufficient water levels to keep our community safe and avoid further restrictions that could include an enforced outdoor watering ban with fines.
