Advancing Peel’s key priorities with the provincial government at 2026 AMO Conference
BRAMPTON, ON (Aug. 20, 2026) - Securing investments, proposing policy solutions and building support on key Peel priorities to keep pace with growth was the focus of Peel Region’s advocacy in Ottawa this week at the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference. The Peel Region delegation met with provincial ministers, parliamentary assistants, ministry officials and municipal leaders, to advance priorities to support much-needed housing, essential infrastructure, improved access to health care as well as the long-term financial sustainability of Peel's growing communities.
The Peel delegation included Regional Chair Nando Iannicca, members of Regional Council and senior staff who advocated for support on key priorities, including:
- Sustainable infrastructure funding to support rapid growth and address development charge-related funding pressures.
- Provincial investments to increase housing supply, address homelessness and expand affordable housing options.
- Enhanced health care supports and funding to improve access to services for Peel residents.
- Continued partnership to support Peel's long-term financial sustainability and delivery of essential services.
Individual meetings were held with provincial ministers and representatives, including:
Ministry of Infrastructure to discuss the need for long-term infrastructure funding that supports growth-related projects and enables municipalities to build the infrastructure needed for housing and economic development.
Major highlight:
- A continued commitment to work with Peel Region to ensure housing enabling infrastructure is in place to support the expected growth in Peel.
Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to discuss housing affordability, homelessness, growth-related challenges and opportunities to strengthen municipal-provincial partnerships.
Major highlight:
- Acknowledgment and recognition that Peel Region is a leading regional partner on working with Government of Ontario to increase housing affordability through reductions of development charges.
Ministry of Health to discuss fair funding and improved mental health and addiction services and opportunities to improve access to care for Peel residents.
Major highlight:
- Government of Ontario and Peel Region remain committed to establishing a second HART Hub in Mississauga to help build on the services already delivered through the Brampton site.
Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services to discuss the critical need for supportive housing that safeguards the well-being of victims and survivors of family and intimate partner violence.
Major highlight:
- A continued commitment to work together toward solutions that address gender-based and intimate partner violence.

The AMO Conference provided an important opportunity to strengthen Peel Region's relationships with provincial partners and advance the priorities that matter most to our residents and businesses.
