    2. Peel Regional Paramedic Services

    About us

    We provide out-of-hospital medical care.

Peel Regional Paramedic Services is one of Canada’s busiest paramedic services. We respond to more than 140,000 calls in a typical year.

The paramedics, logistics technicians, and office staff all play a role in keeping the 911 system running year-round. Learn more about what we do.

    Ready for any situation

Peel paramedics are highly trained to meet the unique needs of Peel, a regional municipality that holds Canada’s largest airport, 7 major highways, busy cities, and rural towns.

Peel paramedics are just as prepared to help someone on a farmer’s field as they are inside a Boeing 747. They can handle any emergency at any time, anywhere.

Peel Regional Paramedic Services Strategic Plan 2024-2028

Learn how we plan to meet the evolving needs of our community:

    Innovative deployment model

We were one of the first paramedic services in Canada to have a dedicated vehicle team. Logistics technicians work 24/7 to ensure our ambulances meet or exceed provincial standards.

By taking over the cleaning and restocking of ambulances, logistics technicians free up paramedics to do what they do best: save lives.

    Part of your neighbourhood

Peel paramedics are sent into the community from 24 paramedic stations located in Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga. Learn about our stations.

    Providing the best care

Our cardiac arrest save rate is among the best in North America.

To improve our save rate, we've placed hundreds of defibrillators (AEDs) in public spaces. These life-saving devices are used a few times each month, giving more people in Peel a second chance at life. Learn about our Public Access Defibrillator program.

STEMI, or ST elevated myocardial infarction, is a form of heart attack that can cause death if not treated within minutes.

Peel paramedics can bypass the emergency room and take STEMI patients straight to a cardiologist for catheterization.

The average time for Peel paramedics to get a STEMI patient to an operating table is well below the international standard of 90 minutes.

    Investing in research

We support research that benefits Peel residents.

Early on, we were the largest service to try an approach called CPAP to help patients breathe. CPAP later became the standard in Ontario.

Today we continue to study new drugs and devices to save more lives. Some of our studies have led to better ways to caring for people in Peel and across the world.

Learn more about our research studies.

Helping to close the gaps in health care

Our Community Paramedics program allows us to give ongoing care to clients who need it. This new approach is keeping more people in their homes and out of hospital.

Learn more about our other programs.

    Caring for our employees

We aim to be a leader in paramedic mental health and wellness.

    • In 2018 we created a Culture and Engagement group to focus on staff well-being, diversity, and inclusion.
    • We're working to meet the voluntary CSA Standard on Psychological Health and Safety in a Paramedic Services Organization.
    • We're also leading research and advocacy to stop violence against paramedics.
