Location
The new building is located slightly southeast of the current Peel Manor building.
Name and signage
The main signage at the front of the building will read “Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor” to reflect the diversity of people, programs and accommodations that will co-exist within the building. The long term care centre will continue to be named Peel Manor.
Entrances
There are 2 main entrances at the front of the building. The long term care centre is most easily accessible via the north entrance. The Integrated Care Centre is most easily accessible via the south entrance.
Elevators
There are 4 elevators in the building.
Parking
There will be both surface and underground parking. Most visitors will use the surface parking. Access to the underground parking will be restricted.
Security
There will be several security systems in the new building. Access control systems are in place on building entry/exit doors, elevators, and entrances into the resident home areas. Cameras are positioned strategically to cover entry/exit doors and other key areas within the building.
Additional information
- A central heating, ventilation and air conditioning system will provide heating and cooling in all enclosed areas of the building.
- The Meals on Wheels program will be located on the lower level.
Key features and areas on the main floor include:
- Reception desks and LTC administrative offices

- Adult Day Services
- Respite Centre
- Hair salon
- Multi-Faith Room
- Café and Shop run as a social enterprise
- Various meeting rooms and spaces for community partners
Hair salon
Salon services will be available to residents and staff members living and working at the Village, as well as people living in the neighbouring community. Services for residents will be prioritized and the salon will follow all infection prevention and control measures to keep everyone safe.
Service Hub
Many spaces on the main floor are intended to function in an integrated fashion as a “Service Hub” for the community. Although we expect the key target population of the Service Hub to be seniors, others in the community will be able to access the services in the hub.
Resident home areas
Each long term care floor will be home to up to 59 residents. Each floor will be divided into 2 resident home areas. Each home area is designed to create smaller household areas within it.
Resident home area amenities:

Types of rooms
Peel Manor Long Term Care Centre will offer basic and private rooms (no semi-private rooms).
The basic rooms meet the traditional Ministry of Long-Term Care definition of a semi-private room. A one-bed bedroom accommodating one resident, another one-bed bedroom accommodating another resident with each bedroom having direct access into a shared ensuite washroom.
There are no showers in basic rooms. Only private rooms will have their own washrooms with a private shower.
Heating and cooling in rooms
There will be a thermostat in each resident room to adjust the room temperature a degree or two warmer or cooler as per residents’ needs.
Windows
Each resident room will have a section of the window that can be opened. The window will look like the picture provided, and the section marked in red can be opened to allow for fresh air. The opening range is limited to less than 6 inches, to comply with requirements stated by the Ministry of Long-Term Care.
Requesting a different accommodation location
As most of the rooms in the new building have been assigned, it will be difficult to change room assignments. If you have a concern, reach out to us as soon as possible. Requests will be added to our internal transfer list for consideration.
Changing the type of accommodation assigned
Contact us, as soon as possible, if you desire a change to the accommodation type using the contact information provided in the letter. It may not be possible to accommodate requests for room type changes before the move-in, so your request may be added to our internal waitlist.
Resident and family room visits before the move
There are still a lot of project activities happening in the new building and it remains a restricted area. We are looking into opportunities to help residents and families get familiar with the new building prior to the move. More information about these opportunities will be shared closer to the move-in date.
How doctors will be assigned to residents
The assignment model of having doctors dedicated to residents living in specific home areas will continue in the new building.
Dr. Mohamed Abu-Abed will continue to be the Medical Director for the whole home and the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for the second floor, which includes our Transitional Behavioural Support Unit (TBSU) and Butterfly resident home area.
Dr. Stephen Chin will be the MRP for residents living on the third floor which includes Fountainview and Woodhillway resident home areas, and Dr. Davindra Jailall will be the MRP for the fourth floor which includes Blue Jay and Cardinal resident home areas.
Staff assignments to resident home areas in the new building
Staff assignments to resident home areas are subject to change due to several factors. We are currently finishing the recruitment efforts to support the newly created staffing schedules to meet the operational requirements of the new building. We are in the process of filling all positions in accordance with our staffing plans adhering to all legislative and policy requirements that focus on providing quality care and services.
