About the Flow Program
As Peel grows, we want to ensure our community continues to be a great place to live, work, and play.
The Ontario government has made a bold commitment to build more homes in Ontario over the next 10 years.
While Peel Region doesn’t build homes, we do make sure what’s needed below ground is ready to accommodate building communities above it. This includes providing the infrastructure required to access safe, reliable drinking water and to properly collect and treat wastewater.
More Homes Built Faster Act, Bill 23
Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act was introduced by the Ontario government to support the province’s newest Housing Supply Action Plan. This plan aims to build more homes for Ontario families.
The Government of Ontario has committed to building 1.5 million more homes in Ontario over the next 10 years.
These provincial housing targets have drastically accelerated the demand for water, wastewater, and road infrastructure, at rates almost 5 times that of Peel’s historical growth.
Housing targets for 2051 need to be met almost 20 years sooner. That means more than 245,000 residential units in Peel Region, 113,000 in Brampton, and 13,000 in Caledon.
In response, Peel Council has approved over $1 billion in capital investments to support these targets, reinforcing our commitment to building the essential water and wastewater infrastructure needed for our future communities.
Peel’s accelerated water and wastewater infrastructure program—Flow—will help meet this need.
