Projects 14-1240, 14-1256 & 14-1257 - Construction commencement
Peel Region will be working to construct new watermains on Dixie Road, Williams Parkway and Northgate Boulevard as shown in the attached map. Watermains are underground pipes. They bring tap water from our water treatment facility to your neighbourhood. As pipes age and our population grows, we need to replace older watermains with larger pipes to keep providing high quality water services.
Project details
The work will be completed by C&M McNally Engineering Corporation, and supported by Jacobs Engineering Group, both under contract to Peel Region. This work will primarily be completed underground in tunnels, with aboveground construction activities mainly limited to a few fenced areas which will provide access for the tunneling equipment to enter and exit the tunnel. Some areas will also require digging a trench within the municipal right-of-way, which includes the street and the land owned by the municipality between the street and private property line. Depending on the location of the watermain, this trench might cause temporary damage to roads, curbs, sidewalks, boulevards.
Construction schedule Construction is planned to begin on August 26, 2024, and be completed by mid-2027. Sign up for email notices Receive timely project updates right to your inbox by signing up for e-notices. Visit peelregion.ca/construction/signup
Working hours
Our contractor’s normal working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with the local municipality’s bylaws. We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but shorter working days would require this area to be under construction for a longer period of time.
Traffic impacts
This work will require lane closures on Dixie Road at several locations between Howden Boulevard and North Park Drive, at the intersection of Dixie Road at Queen Street, and at the intersection of Dixie Road and Williams Parkway.
Interrupting your water supply
We do not anticipate that this construction project will require temporarily shutting off your water.
If we must shut off your water due to an emergency, we will knock on your door to alert you, and do everything we can to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Tree trimming
If tree branches within the municipal right-of-way interfere with construction, the trees will be pruned beforehand. Some trees will need to be removed prior to the start of construction, these will be replaced after all construction is complete. There will also be road works as part of the Dixie Area Water and Road Improvements, therefore some trees will be replanted at the end of all construction.
If tree branches on private property interfere with construction, they will be pruned back to the nearest suitable trunk or branch. The contractor will contact you before any pruning of private trees occurs. If you do not allow personnel onto your property to trim the tree, the branches will be cut vertically at the property line.
Vibrations
You could feel slight vibrations from the construction work.
Safety during construction
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible.
