Project 26-2300A
Streets affected: Amity Road, Earl Street, Joseph Street, and River Road
Advance notice and pre-design field investigation
Peel Region is planning future improvement of the sanitary sewer system in your area. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home to a water resource recovery facility. Wastewater is created when water goes down a drain or toilet. As pipes age and our population grows, we need to replace them to provide you with high-quality wastewater services.
Important note
Construction will take place in the municipal right-of-way. This includes the street and the municipal-owned land between the street and the water service box, a small, round, metal valve located outside on the property line between your home or business and the road. This work may impact the bottom of your driveway and the area around the sidewalk. We recommend that you delay major landscaping or driveway paving until construction is completed.
Pre-design field investigations
We have begun conducting field investigations in your neighbourhood along Amity Road, Earl Street, Joseph Street and River Road. Activities include:
- Surveying your street and use temporary spray paint or flags on roads, driveways, and lawns to locate underground gas, hydro, and cable.
- We may drill holes in the road or municipal right-of-way to collect soil samples, determine ground conditions, or confirm utility locations. The municipal right-of-way includes the street and the municipal-owned land between the street and the water service box, a small, round, metal valve located outside on the property line between your home or business and the road.
- We will take pictures and videos to help restore the area as close as possible to its former condition, after construction takes place.
These activities are ongoing and expect to happen until the end of May 2026.
Construction activities
A detailed construction scope and schedule will be shared closer to the start date. A brief description of the anticipated construction scope includes:
- Excavation and trenching to replace the sanitary sewer.
- Vibration, dust, and noise impacts.
- Temporary water interruptions.
- Lane closures and potential driveway closures.
Construction activities are scheduled to begin in Spring 2027 and will be completed before the end of 2028.
Contractor working hours
The work will be completed by WSP under contract to Peel Region. Working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Traffic impacts
There may be minor traffic disruptions during these activities. If this is needed, we will place signs giving directions.
