    Project 24-1340 B May 8, 2025 update

    Watermain replacement and improvement

Streets affected: Murdoch Drive and Talbot Street

    Notice of restoration

Peel Region will be repairing driveways, roads, curbs, sidewalks, and sod (grass), following the replacement of the watermain(s) along Murdoch Drive, Talbot Street, Shallimar Court and Northumberland Place.

    Restoration schedule

Restoration work will start on May 12, 2025 on Murdoch drive by removing and replacing concrete curb, followed by Topsoil and Sod replacement on Murdoch drive and Talbot street during the week of May 19th, 2025 and finally Asphalt paving works on Murdoch Drive and Talbot street during the week of May 26th, 2025. We plan to complete all restoration work by May 30th, 2025, weather permitting.

Please note that repairs may be delayed due to contractor availability or weather conditions.

    For example:

    • Paving cannot take place when the ground is saturated with water, or the temperature is below 3°C.
    • Asphalt is not available in large volumes during the winter. It usually becomes available around mid-May.
    • Most sod farms are located north of Peel. They usually have sod available starting in late May. We’ll replace the sod on your property once it is available.
    • In summer, we may need to postpone sod replacement due to hot, dry weather.
    • We replace sod only until the middle of November, weather permitting, to let the sod grow roots. If we do not repair your lawn by the middle of November, we’ll replace the sod the following spring.

    Contractor working hours

The work will be completed by Nabolsy Contracting Inc. under contract to Peel Region. Working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with local municipal bylaws and help shorten the amount of time construction is in your neighborhood.

    Traffic and parking

We may need to temporarily close roads or reduce traffic to a single lane. If this is needed, we will place signs giving directions. On-street parking will be reduced when we are working on your street.

    In-ground sprinkler systems

If the area in front of your home was affected by construction, in-ground sprinkler lines may be impacted during the upcoming restoration work. We strongly recommend moving any sprinkler lines in the municipal right-of-way or next to the sidewalk. The municipal right-of-way includes the street and the municipal-owned land between the street and the water service box, a small, round, metal valve located outside on the property line between your home or business and the road.

If you cannot move these sprinkler lines, send us your irrigation map or flag each sprinkler head within one meter of the sidewalk, curb, or driveway. This will allow us to minimize the impact to your sprinkler system.

    Replacing grassy areas

The contractor will replace any damaged sod on the boulevard or your front lawn and will take care of it for 30 days. You can help the sod stay healthy by watering it. A longer watering works better than watering more frequently for a shorter time. Early morning watering allows more water to soak in.

    Driveway repairs

    • Interlock or concrete driveways: If we damage a portion of your driveway, our contractor will repair the damaged portion.
    • Asphalt driveways: If we need to cut a section of your driveway, it will be repaired by paving a strip over the impacted area, resulting in minimal seams. Peel cannot replace your entire driveway. If you would like to have the rest of your driveway paved, please contact the contractor, Nabolsy Contracting Inc., at 226-962-2977. The contractor will then share contact information for the company hired to do the paving repairs. Please remember this is your choice. If you decide to have your entire driveway repaved, this extra paving work is your responsibility and outside Peel Region jurisdiction.

    Road repairs

We’ll pave the road where it was affected by construction. This work will start around May 26, 2025, weather permitting. We’ll deliver more detailed information closer to the start date.

    Driveway access and parking

We may block your driveway for a short time to pave the road. We’ll ensure businesses can be accessed when possible. Contact us if you have any access needs.

Please avoid parking on your driveway when it is being repaired. We’ll knock on your door before driveway work begins. If you will not be home weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., do not leave any vehicles on the driveway. Avoid driving on new asphalt for the first three hours and parking on it for one day after paving.

To provide an alternate parking location, we have arranged for a street parking enforcement exemption from the City of Brampton for:

    • Murdoch Drive (from Flowertown Avenue to Major William Sharpe Drive)
    • Major William Sharpe Drive (from Atkins Circle to Flowertown Avenue)
    • Talbot Street (from Vodden Street West to English Street)
    • English Street (from Moore Street to Vodden Street West)

This exemption is valid for May 12 – May 16 and from May 26 – May 30. Please note that all other parking laws remain in place, including proper clearance from hydrants and stop signs.

Please email construction@peelregion.ca if you have special needs related to driveway access.

    Warranty on construction repairs

All work is warrantied for two years from the completion date.

It is normal for repaired areas to settle. Let us know if you notice large potholes forming where the driveway, street, or lawn was repaired, and we’ll ensure these are fixed before the warranty period ends. Once the warranty period is over, Peel is no longer responsible for fixing potholes or dead sod in these locations.

    Construction safety

Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe. Be aware of your surroundings when driving, walking, or biking near the construction area. Watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, and consider other routes. Learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones.
