Streets affected: Caravelle Drive

Construction work in your area

Peel Region will be improving the watermain along Caravelle Drive, as shown on the attached map. Watermains are underground pipes that bring tap water from our water treatment facility to your area. The watermain at the end of your street currently has a dead end and will be extended into a loop. This work is required to improve water circulation and provide you with high-quality water.

Construction schedule

Construction is planned to start August 25, 2025 and finish by Fall 2025. These dates may change due to weather and other unexpected events. Once the underground work is completed, we’ll begin repairing impacted driveways, boulevards, sod (grass), roads, curbs, and sidewalks. Information about repairs will follow at a later date. All work is warrantied for 2 years from the completion date.

Contractor working hours

The work will be completed by World Quality Construction Inc., under contract to Peel Region. Working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with local municipal bylaws and help shorten the amount of time construction is in your area.

Traffic and parking

We may need to temporarily close roads or reduce traffic to a single lane. If this is needed, we will place signs giving directions. On-street parking will be reduced when we are working on your street.

Interrupting your water supply

We may need to temporarily shut off your water.

For businesses:

• If your business needs a continuous water supply and you have not already completed a water needs survey, please let us know when and how your business uses water.

If we need to shut off your water due to an emergency, we’ll knock on your door and do everything we can to fix the problem quickly.

Vibrations, noise, and dust

You could feel slight vibrations and experience some minor noise and dust from construction work.

Construction safety

Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe. Be aware of your surroundings when driving, walking, or biking near the construction area. Watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, and consider other routes. Learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones.

Areas impacted

Installing watermains usually requires digging a trench within the municipal right-of-way. This includes the street and the municipal-owned land between the street and the water service box, a small, round, metal valve located outside on the property line between your home or business and the road. This trench might cause temporary damage to roads, curbs, sidewalks, boulevards, lawns, and the bottom of driveways.

We recommend that you delay driveway paving or major landscaping projects until this work is completed. Any damage caused by our construction will be repaired.

Tree protection and trimming

Trees in the municipal right-of-way will be protected using temporary fencing. Branches on public and private property will be pruned beforehand if they interfere with construction. The contractor will contact you before pruning any private property trees. If you do not allow the contractor on your property, the branches will be cut vertically at the property line.

Driveway access

We’ll knock on your door if we have to block your driveway for a short time. If a trench blocks your driveway access, the contractor will provide metal road plates. We will work to ensure businesses can be accessed. Contact us if you have any access needs.

Repairing impacted areas

Once the new watermain is buried and new water service pipes are connected to all properties, we’ll repair the road, curb, sidewalk, driveways, and lawns.

Repairs may be delayed due to seasonal weather conditions. For example:

• Paving cannot take place when the ground is saturated with water, or the temperature is below 3°C.
• Asphalt is not available in large volumes during the winter and usually becomes available in mid-May.

Most sod (grass) farms have sod available beginning in late May. We replace sod until the middle of November, weather permitting, to let the roots grow. If we do not replace it by the middle of November, we’ll replace it the following spring.

Repairing grassy areas

The contractor will replace any damaged sod on the boulevard or your front lawn and will take care of it for 30 days. You can help the sod stay healthy by watering it. A longer watering works better than watering more frequently for a shorter time. Early morning watering allows more water to soak in.
