Project 23-2300 A – May 29, 2025 update
Streets affected: Eastern Avenue
Peel Region has been replacing the sanitary sewer along Eastern Avenue. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home to a water resource recovery facility. Wastewater is created when water goes down a drain or toilet.
At this stage, we will be relining a portion of the wastewater service pipe which carries wastewater from your home to the sanitary sewer.
We will clean the sewer pipe and place a new resin (plastic) lining inside it to extend its life. This work will be completed by Aqua Tech Solutions Inc. a subcontractor to the general contractor Trisan Construction under contract to Peel Region.
We typically only line the portion of the wastewater service pipe within municipal property, as it’s your responsibility to maintain the portion on private property.
To line the wastewater service pipe, we may need to dig a hole approximately two square meters. This hole will be dug where the pipe crosses your front property line in the lawn or driveway to provide access to the pipe. This work will result in minimal impacts to you.

Construction schedule
We expect to start relining affected wastewater service pipes on Eastern Avenue around June 2nd, 2025. We expect to complete this work on July 15th, 2025.
Once we have connected all affected properties on each street to the new sanitary sewer, we will start repairing driveways, roads, curbs, sidewalks, and sod (grass).
Please note that repairs may be delayed due to contractor availability or weather conditions.
Repairs may be delayed due to seasonal weather conditions.
For example:
- Paving cannot take place when the ground is saturated with water, or the temperature is below 3°C.
- Asphalt is not available in large volumes during the winter and usually becomes available in mid-May.
- Most sod farms have sod available beginning in late May. We replace sod until the middle of November, weather permitting, to let the roots grow. If we do not replace it by the middle of November, we’ll replace it the following spring.
All work is warrantied for two years from the completion date.
Wastewater service interruptions
To complete this work, your wastewater service pipe will be out of service for approximately 8 hours. This interruption allows for the pipe to be repaired without digging trenches. The contractor will provide a second notice with a date and time at least 24 hours before the lining process begins.
It is important to minimize your water use during this work:
- You may continue to wash your hands but minimize your water use.
- Do not use showers, bathtubs, dishwashers, or your washing machine.
- Keep toilet flushing to a minimum.
These actions will reduce the possibility of wastewater backing up into your basement or plumbing. If you have a sump pump, please notify us at construction@peelregion.ca or tell the contractor when they arrive.
Odours
You may smell some odours while the resin inside the sewer cures. These odours will go away within a few hours. You can prevent or minimize this by pouring a bucket of water down the basement floor drain and running water in all sinks, showers, and tubs for a minute, either the evening before or day of the relining work. If this is not possible (for example, if it is currently covered by flooring), we strongly recommend making it accessible before construction begins to reduce odours.
Construction safety
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe. Be aware of your surroundings when driving, walking, or biking near the construction area. Watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, and consider other routes. Visit peelregion.ca/workzonesafety for more information.
Damages from our construction will be repaired
- If we dig up your lawn, we’ll replace the sod (grass) in the impacted area.
- If we cut a section of your driveway, it will be repaired by paving a strip over the impacted area, resulting in minimal seams.
