Project 23-1408
Peel Region is planning to conduct inspections and collect soil samples on an existing watermain and associated valve chambers in your area, as shown on the attached map. Watermains are underground pipes that bring tap water from our water treatment facility to your neighbourhood. Valve chambers are underground concrete boxes that provide access to important equipment associated with the watermains.
The watermain, called the Herridge Feedermain, is an underground pipe extending from the Lorne Park Water Treatment Plant (located on Lakeshore Road West near Lorne Park Road) to the Herridge Pumping Station and Reservoir (located on Sheridan Park Drive near Fifth Line West). Water is then diverted from the pumping station to provide clean drinking water to residents and businesses in Peel. As pipes age, we monitor and maintain them to continue providing you with high quality tap water.
Schedule
We anticipate the inspection activities to take place from mid-February to the end of February 2025, and the soil sampling to take place in March 2025, weather permitting.
Consultant and working hours
These activities will be conducted by Robinson Consultants Inc and Envision, both under contract to Peel Region, during normal working hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with the local municipality's bylaws.
Activities in your neighbourhood
You may notice the following activities in your area:
- The contractor will set up small equipment at various locations along the watermain, such as roads, boulevards, parking lots, or parks.
- The contractor will drill holes to collect soil samples to determine ground conditions.
- Standby generators may be in use at some locations that may temporarily cause some noise.
Traffic impacts
Temporary lane reductions at some locations (approximately 70 to 100 metres) will be required to complete this work. These reductions will occur during non-peak hours for about 4 to 6 hours at the following locations:
- Clarkson Road North between Fellen Place and Balsam Avenue
- Walden Circle between 1110 Walden Circle and 1180 Walden Circle. Please note, this location will also include a short-term sidewalk closure during these activities
- South Sheridan Way between 2100 South Sheridan Way and 2200 South Sheridan Way
- Kos Boulevard
- Fowler Lane
- Multiple locations along Southdown Road between Broomsgrove Road and Sheridan Way
- Multiple locations along Lakeshore Road between Jack Darling Memorial Park and Bexhill Road
Traffic signs will be in place where lanes have been reduced. We apologize for any inconvenience resulting from these traffic impacts.
Water service impacts
There will be no impacts to residents' or businesses' water service.
Noise
There may be a standby generator and pumps set up at various locations to support these operations. We apologize for any temporary noise that this may cause.
Safety during construction
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe - pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible.
