Project 20-4860
Advance notice
Bridge structure and watermain improvements are coming to Highway 50 between Queensgate Boulevard and Healey Road, with construction set to begin in fall 2025.
These improvements will focus on bridge structure replacement and rehabilitation over the Canadian Pacific Kansas Rail (CPKC) and watermain replacement. Traffic on Highway 50 will be maintained throughout construction and all business and residences will remain accessible.
The work will also include the replacement of existing 300mm Ductile Watermain on Highway 50 between Queensgate Boulevard to Wilton Drive. Additional information will be provided prior to the construction period.
Background
Peel Region is nearing the completion of the detailed design for the improvements on Highway 50/Queens Street between Queensgate Boulevard and Healey Road and watermain replacement on Highway 50 between Queensgate Boulevard and Wilton Drive. Key construction elements will include:

- The rehabilitation of the southbound bridge including sidewalk widening and installing a separation wall.
- Full replacement of the northbound bridge with a widened future cross-section to accommodate a multi-use path.
- Replacement of the watermains in your area as shown on the right, in the Town of Caledon.
- Bridge replacement and rehabilitation and watermain replacement, not limited to removal of existing asphalt, concrete removals for southbound structure, removal of existing northbound bridge structure, reconstruction of bridge elements, reconstruction of the roadway, pavement resurfacing, etc.
We are currently in the final stages of detailed design and the project is expected to proceed to construction this fall.
Project benefits
The improvements to the bridge structures along Highway 50 in the Town of Caledon will ensure the structures are maintained prior to the end of their lifecycle while also improving pathways and sidewalks to encourage physical activity in the area. The improvements to the watermain will ensure that continued high-quality water is provided to you with the growing demand in population.
Mitigation measures
The construction contractor will work within the established noise and vibration limits for construction permitted by Peel Region. Noise and dust will be regularly monitored. Any night work, if required, will be subject to the appropriate allowance. In areas where parking is impacted, alternative parking locations will be identified.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to make Highway 50/Queen Street South a safe and vibrant main street that supports an active community while also ensuring access to high-quality water. If you have any questions, please contact us.
