Project 19-2158 – January 2026 update
As part of the Flow | Central Brampton Program, Peel Region is installing a new sanitary sewer under Malta Avenue, the multi-use pathway next to Fletcher’s Creek Senior Public School, and the easement next to Fletcher’s Creek.
Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home to a water resource recovery facility. Wastewater is created when water goes down a drain or toilet. As our population grows, we need to build larger sewers to provide you with high-quality wastewater services.
Upcoming work
Throughout February and March, construction will continue underground as crews complete the final stages of tunnelling, conduct testing, complete lining assessments, install a new maintenance structure within the construction compound and apply protective coating to extend the sewer’s lifespan.
Once these activities are complete, the temporary shafts will be removed, and the area will be backfilled and restored.
Residents may notice trucks delivering materials or removing soil, along with regular construction equipment operating within the secured work zones. No new construction areas are planned during this time.
Completed work
Over the past month, crews completed a major section of tunnelling between the work sites at Azores Park and the intersection of Malta Avenue and Tina Court, and removed the tunnelling equipment from the site. Additional underground mining and lining inspections were completed to prepare the sewer for testing and the final construction phase. These milestones mark important progress as the project moves closer to completion.
How you may be impacted by construction
During construction, you will notice the following:
- Traffic impacts are limited to specific locations, such as the shaft compound at Malta Avenue and Sir Lou Drive, which is set up off the road as much as possible.
- The sidewalk in front of Azores Park and the baseball diamond behind Fletcher's Creek Senior Public School will be closed for safety. Pedestrians are encouraged to use nearby crosswalks to go around the intersection. Flag persons will help pedestrians and drivers during deliveries and construction equipment movements to help ensure safety.
- Water service interruptions are not expected. If there is an emergency, service will be restored quickly to minimize inconvenience.
Please use extra caution when driving near the construction zone, watch for trucks entering or exiting the work area, and follow posted pedestrian signs in the park. We will share updates if there are major changes to the project schedule or activities.
