Project 17-2280 - August 4, 2023 update
Streets affected: Sant Farm Drive
Peel Region has been working in your area to install new sanitary sewers along Albion Vaughan Road, Nunnville Road, Old King Road, Queensgate Boulevard, Harvestview Avenue, Sant Farm Drive, and Riverwood Terrace. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home to a wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater is created when water goes down the drain or is flushed down the toilet. As our population grows, we need to build new sewers to keep providing high quality wastewater services.
At this stage in the project, we will begin installing a new sanitary sewer along Sant Farm Drive, between Allan Drive and the north leg of Riverwood Terrace, as shown on the map below. This work will be completed underground in tunnels, and will not require digging a long trench along Sant Farm Drive. Aboveground construction activities will be mainly limited to a few fenced areas which will provide access for the tunneling equipment to enter the tunnel.
Before we can begin tunneling, we will need to dig these tunnel access points. Our first step will be making changes to an underground watermain to make room for the tunnel access points.
Construction schedule
Below is the tentative schedule for construction work along Sant Farm Drive:
- We plan to make changes to the watermain during the week of August 8th to August 11th, 2023.
- We plan to finish digging the tunnel access points by the end of August 2023.
- We plan to tunnel the new sewer from early September to late October 2023.
- We expect to install new sewer maintenance holes (commonly called manholes) from October to November 2023.
- We will fix any affected areas of the road, curb, sidewalk, driveways and boulevard from November to December 2023.
These timelines are estimates, as weather and other unexpected events may impact our timelines.
Construction and repair work completed as part of this project is under warranty for two years from the completion date.
Contractor and working hours
The work will be completed by Earth Boring Co. Limited and supported by Chisholm Fleming and Associates Consultants, both under contract to the Peel Region. Our contractor’s normal working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday. These hours are consistent with the local municipality’s bylaws. We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but shorter working days would require your neighbourhood to be under construction for a longer period of time.
Traffic impacts
- While we are working on the watermain and digging the tunnel access points, Sant Farm Drive will be reduced to a single lane between Allan Drive and the north leg of Riverwood Terrace. A detour route will be clearly marked with road signs. This detour route will change depending on the specific work that is taking place.
- Once we begin tunneling the new sanitary sewer underground, Sant Farm Drive will be fully closed between Allan Drive and the north leg of Riverwood Terrace. Further information will be provided closer to the date of this road closure.
- On-street parking will be reduced during construction when we are actively working on your street.
Interrupting your water supply
We anticipate that this construction project will require temporarily shutting off your water.
- It is our goal to let you know 48 hours (2 days) in advance if we plan to shut off your water for an extended period (several hours). Occasionally we may have to reduce this notice to 24 hours.
- If we need to shut off your water for a short duration (less than one hour), we will knock on your door to notify you.
- If we must shut off your water due to an emergency, we will knock on your door to alert you, and do everything we can to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Safety during construction
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible. Learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones.
Keeping you informed
We will let you know if there are any major changes to the plans. Receive timely project updates right to your inbox by signing up for e-notices. Information on this construction project can also be found on the project webpage.
