Construction in your area
We are:
- Installing new large watermains
- Installing noise walls
- Improving the East Brampton Pumping Station located on Nanport Street
After that, we will:
Widen Dixie Road (including adding new multi-use trails)

Upcoming watermain work – what to expect
Peel Region’s contractor will:
- Continue excavating an underground shaft for tunnelling construction within the compound at Dixie Road and Clark Boulevard (site 6).
- Start tunnelling for a watermain from Newcastle Park on Williams Parkway (site 14) towards Dixie Road and Williams Parkway intersection (site 9C).
- Continue preparation works for the following compounds:
- Dixie Road southbound between Lascelles Boulevard and Williams Parkway (site 9).
- Dixie Road and Williams Parkway (site 9C).
- Dixie Road southbound between Northampton Street/Mansion Street and North Park Drive (site 10).
- Southeast corner of Northampton Park, behind the pumping station located on Nanport Street (site 11).
- Start preparation works for the following compounds:
- Northwest corner of Dixie Road and Queen Street East (site 7C).
- Dixie Road southbound north of Howden Boulevard (site 8C).
- You will see fencing and/or concrete noise barrier walls being installed around the sites, some trees being removed, and other trees being protected. You may also see equipment moved onto these sites, as well as the start of excavating underground shafts for tunnelling construction.

- In February, temporary traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Dixie Road and Mansion Street.
- See attached map for locations of present and upcoming construction compounds and lane closures.
How you may be affected
- If you drive on Dixie Road, you will experience traffic delays due to lane closures around our shaft compounds. Please be patient and follow the traffic signs.
- Dixie Road sidewalks will be locally closed on the west side. Pedestrians are strongly encouraged to use the sidewalk on the east side or other signed detours.
- Newcastle Park and the park at Dixie and Clark are closed during construction.
- If you live near these work compounds, you may hear some additional noise and see increased construction traffic in the area.

Work completed so far

Peel Region’s contractor has:
- Completed preliminary works such as environmental studies, obtaining required permits, installing projects signs, locating existing utilities, assessment of existing sewers and adjacent buildings and structures, noise and vibration monitoring, etc.
- Completed temporary road widening of northbound Dixie Road between Lascelles Boulevard and Williams Parkway, and between Mansion Street and North Park Drive.
- Completed preparation of the compound and the excavation of the underground shaft for micro-tunnelling construction in Newcastle Park on Williams Parkway.
- Continued excavation of the underground shaft for tunnelling construction at northeast corner of Dixie Road and Clark Boulevard.
- Continued setting up the compound on Dixie Road at Williams Parkway, along with two other compounds north and south of the intersection.
- Started setting up the compound at the southeast corner of Northampton Park, behind the pumping station located on Nanport Street.
When construction may be completed
- The watermain portion of the project is expected to be completed in mid 2027.
- The work in the Dixie Road Area is anticipated to be completed in 5-6 years. This includes the watermain construction, installing noise walls, widening the road, and completing the multi-use trails.
Reducing the impact of construction
- The watermain will mainly be installed by tunnelling to avoid digging large ditches along Dixie Road. The traffic impact will be limited to specific areas (shaft compounds), which we’ve worked to move off the road as much as possible.
- We don’t expect to have to shut off your water, but if we must shut off your water because of an emergency, we will do everything we can to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
- We will let you know if there are any significant project changes.
Safety
- All of us have a part to play in construction safety. There are many safety regulations that are followed on a construction site to keep our workers safe. Also, our shaft compounds have fencing around them, which keeps the public separated from the construction activities inside.
- However, we are working in the boulevard, in parks and in some cases on the road. Please be aware and look out for your own safety, as well as our contractor’s.
- Please drive slowly, be aware and look for workers and equipment. Vehicles and other equipment will be entering and exiting sites. Please follow the traffic control staff and signs, they are there to help keep everybody safe.
- If you are walking or cycling, for your safety please avoid closed sidewalks and use the sidewalk on the east side or follow detour signs. Please don’t approach the workers or equipment while they are working. If you need to get somebody’s attention, please do so by waving them over from a safe distance.

Did you know?
- Water distribution is done through a series of reservoirs (big holding tanks), underground pipes and pumping stations. The pumping stations pump the water through the pipes and into your home. Some of these pipes are 2.4m (8ft) in diameter, which means you could easily stand inside the pipe, even if you are very tall! The pipes that bring water down your local street in front of your house are typically 150mm (6in). They can be various sizes in between. The watermains we are installing on Dixie Road are 1.5m (5ft), 1.05m (3.5 ft) and 0.9m (3ft) in diameter.
