Project 14-1240 - February 6, 2023 update
Street affected: 118 Nanport Street
The Region of Peel will be working to improve the electrical infrastructure at the East Brampton Reservoir and Pumping Station located on Nanport Street, as shown in the resident map. Construction work at our water reservoirs and pumping stations is required from time to time, in order to install new infrastructure and upgrade existing equipment within the stations. This work allows us to continue providing you with high quality tap water.
Project details
Construction activities will be mainly limited to a fenced construction area within the pumping station land. Some work will require digging trenches next to the pumping station within the street allowance, which will require possible lane reductions on Northgate Boulevard and/or Northampton Street. The work will be completed by Bennett Mechanical Installations (2001) and supported by GM BluePlan Engineering Ltd., both under contract to the Region of Peel.
Construction schedule
Construction is anticipated to begin in March 2023 and be completed by mid-2025.

Working hours
City of Brampton bylaws allow construction to occur from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday. To reduce disruption to the surrounding community, our contractor’s normal working hours will be shorter, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday to Friday. We understand this may still cause some inconvenience, but shorter working days would require this area to be under construction for a longer period of time.
Traffic impacts
We may need to temporarily close roads or reduce traffic to a single lane during construction. If we must reroute traffic, we will place signs giving directions. On-street parking will be reduced during construction when we are actively working on your street.
Pedestrian impacts
This work will require closing the following walkways from March 2023 until mid-2025 when this construction is completed:
- The pathway leading to Northampton Park on Nanport Street, near the intersection of Nanport Street and Northgate Boulevard,
- The pathway leading to Northampton Park on Northgate Boulevard, near the intersection of Northgate Boulevard and Northampton Street.
Signage will show detour route directions. The detour map shows the pedestrian detour routes available during the construction period.
Interrupting your water supply
It is our goal to let you know 48 hours (2 days) in advance if we plan to shut off your water for an extended period (several hours). Occasionally we may have to reduce this notice to 24 hours.
If we need to shut off your water for a short duration (less than one hour), we will knock on your door to notify you.
If we must shut off your water due to an emergency, we will knock on your door to alert you, and do everything we can to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Safety during construction
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking near or through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible. To learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones, visit work zone safety.
Keeping you informed
We will let you know if there are any major changes to the plans.
