Project 14-1240 – Apr. 4, 2025 update
Construction in your area – April 2025
We are:
- Installing new large watermains
- Installing noise walls
- Improving the East Brampton Pumping Station located on Nanport Street
After that, we will:
Widen Dixie Road (including adding new multi-use trails)

Tunnel boring machine at Newcastle Park on Williams Parkway
How you may be impacted by construction
- On Dixie Road, you will experience traffic delays due to lane closures around our shaft compounds. Please be patient and follow the traffic signs.
- Sidewalks on the west side of Dixie Road are either closed or will be closed for construction. Pedestrians are strongly encouraged to use the sidewalk on the east side of Dixie Road or other signed detours.
- Newcastle Park, the park at Dixie Road and Clark Boulevard and Northampton Park (adjacent to the East Brampton Pumping Station) are closed during construction.
- If you are a resident around the noise wall installation, you will have your existing fence removed to install the noise walls. You will be notified in advance of when this will happen at your property.
- The southeast entrance to North Hampton Park near Northgate Boulevard and Northampton Street remains closed due to construction at the pumping station.

Upcoming watermain work – what to expect

Upcoming noise wall work – what to expect
- Initially, you will see the noise wall contractor starting with:
- Clearing and removing unnecessary vegetation and debris.
- Tree pruning and removal.
- This will be followed by:
- Removing and disposing of the existing wood fence and chain link fence.
- Installing a temporary fence.
- Installation of a new noise attenuation wall.
- Extending existing backyard fences to the new noise attenuation wall.
- Area restoration and minor related work.
Reducing the impact of construction
- The watermain will mainly be installed by tunnelling to avoid digging large ditches along Dixie Road. The traffic impact will be limited to specific areas (shaft compounds), which we’ve worked to move off the road as much as possible.
- For the noise wall installation, much of the work is focused on the boulevard, with minimal impact on traffic.
- We don’t expect to have to shut off your water, but if we must because of an emergency, we will do everything we can to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
- We will let you know if there are any significant changes to our project
East Brampton Pumping Station update
Phase 1 of the East Brampton Pumping Station and Reservoir upgrades started in March 2023 and is progressing well. Work included:
- A new electrical substation expansion, switchgear, transformers, and other equipment.
- A new electrical room expansion with new equipment, including motor starters, a control panel, switchgear, and HVAC equipment.
Current work includes:
- New equipment installations and retrofits, including HVAC equipment, lighting panel wiring and generator retrofits.
- Finalizing wiring and cable connections between electrical equipment.
- Startup, testing, and commissioning of new equipment and systems to support pumping station operations.

Safety
- Everyone has a part to play in construction safety. Many safety regulations are followed on a construction site to keep our workers safe. Our work sites also have fencing around them, which keeps the public separated from the construction activities inside.
- Look out for your safety as well as our contractor’s when we are working in the boulevard, at the back of people’s backyards, in parks and in some cases, on the road.
- Please be patient when driving through a construction zone. Please drive slowly, be aware and look for workers and equipment. Vehicles and other equipment will be entering and exiting construction sites. Please follow the traffic control staff and signs – they are there to help keep everybody safe.
- For your safety, please avoid closed sidewalks if you are walking or cycling. Use the open sidewalk on the east side of Dixie Road or follow other detour signs. Please do not try to walk out onto the road! Detours are available through the adjacent subdivision.
- Please don’t approach the workers or equipment while they are working. If you need to get somebody’s attention, please do so by waving them over from a safe distance.
When construction is expected to be completed
- The watermain portion of the project is expected to be completed in mid-2027.
- The noise walls on the west site between Hazelwood Drive to Williams Parkway are expected to be completed by December 2025.
- The current construction work for East Brampton Pumping Station Upgrades is expected to be completed in Fall 2025.
- The work in the Dixie Road Area is anticipated to be completed in 5-6 years. This includes the watermain construction, installing noise walls, widening the road, and completing the multi-use trails.
FAQRecent questions asked by residents: Q: Why are we doing the watermain work during winter? A: As this is a multi-year project, it must go through at least one winter, so no matter when we start, we will need to have construction and lane closures during the winter season. Q: Why do you have compounds set up with little activity? A: While it may seem like there is no activity, we are installing the watermain in tunnels underground. To do this, we must first dig shafts for the tunnel machine to travel between. This means that there may appear to be little activity at a specific shaft as the machine moves through the ground to get from one shaft to the next. | Image ![]() |
Did you know?
In Peel, drinking water comes from Lake Ontario, regionally owned wells, or private wells. There are two water treatment plants, the Arthur P. Kennedy and Lorne Park Water Treatment facilities, that provide clean water to urban residents. The Arthur P. Kennedy plant can treat 1200 million litres of water every day, and the Lorne Park plant treats 500 million litres. Learn more.
