Notice of Study Commencement and Public Information Centre 1 – May 22, 2025
Background
To help make new homes available faster, the Region of Peel is upgrading important water and wastewater systems to meet community needs and provincial housing goals. These upgrades will ensure reliable service, support sustainable development, and align with regional planning objectives.
The population of Brampton and parts of Caledon are expected to grow significantly by 2051, especially around major transit stations. The current sewer pipes and the McVean Sewage Pumping Station in East Brampton will not have enough space to handle all the extra wastewater from this growth. To solve this, the Region recently completed a feasibility study to look at building new large sewer pipes (called “sanitary trunk sewers”) in East Brampton, which would add more space for wastewater and bypass the McVean Sewage Pumping Station. As a next step, the Region has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment to further evaluate different routes for the proposed sanitary trunk sewer.
Study Area

This study focuses on East Brampton and part of southeast Caledon. Two possible routes for the new sewer are being considered, which are along Bramalea Road, Torbram Road, and Castlemore Road. These options were identified in the earlier study and will now be looked at more closely to decide which one works best for the community and the environment. The study area and possible sewer routes are shown in the adjacent figure.
Process
This project is being planned using the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, which is a step-by-step method used across Ontario to make sure major infrastructure projects are carefully studied. It looks at different options, possible effects on the community and environment, and how to reduce any negative impacts.
This specific study is a Schedule B project, which means it involves moderate potential impacts and requires public consultation and evaluation of different solutions before moving ahead.
Public Information Centre (PIC)
Public input is an important part of this study. We will be holding two public meetings, called Public Information Centres (PICs), where residents can learn about the project and share feedback.
The first PIC will be held in-person:
Date: June 18, 2025
Time: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Location: Greenbriar Recreation Centre, Community Room, 1100 Central Park Dr, Brampton
At this meeting, you’ll learn more about the project and the work planned during the study. You’ll also be able to ask questions and share your thoughts with staff from the Region of Peel and the consulting team, CIMA+.
If you’d like more information or want to be added to the project’s contact list, please reach out to one of the project team members listed.
