Elia Avenue sanitary sewer enhancements
Notice of completion - October 8, 2025
The study
Peel Region has identified the need to enhance wastewater (sanitary sewer) servicing capacity to facilitate the future growth of the Hurontario and Eglinton Intensification Area in the City of Mississauga.
The Region has undertaken a study to evaluate all potential alternatives for the installation of the sanitary sewer within the highlighted study area.
A Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study has been completed and has identified the preferred solution. The preferred solution involves the installation of a new 1200 mm sanitary sewer starting from Kingsbridge Garden Circle and extending eastward along Elia Avenue and through Huron Heights Park, connecting to an existing sewer on Central Parkway East.
Subject to comments received as a result of this Notice, and the receipt of necessary approvals, the Peel Region intends to proceed to design and construction of this project.
Process
The study followed a Schedule ‘B’ Class EA process, including:
- Public and stakeholder consultations;
- An evaluation of alternative solutions;
- An assessment of preferred solution and identification of methods to lessen the adverse impacts to the community;
- Documentation of the process and its result in a Project File Report.
Public and agency stakeholder consultation, including communications with Indigenous Communities, was and continues to be an important part of the Class EA process.
Project file report
The Project File Report will be available for a 35-day public comment period starting October 8, 2025, and ending November 12, 2025, in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Class EA process (MCEA, February 2024).

The study
Peel Region has identified the need to enhance wastewater (sanitary sewer) servicing capacity to facilitate the future growth of the Hurontario and Eglinton Intensification Area in the City of Mississauga.
This study is required to evaluate all potential alternatives for sanitary sewer development within the highlighted study area.
As a result, a Schedule 'B' Class Environmental Assessment (EA) has been initiated to identify a solution for this infrastructure need. The map shows the area that may be affected by the proposed construction.
Process
The Study is being performed in accordance with the Schedule "B" process in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA), 2024, which includes:
- Public and stakeholder consultations;
- An evaluation of alternative solutions;
- An assessment of proposed alternatives; and,
- Identification of ways to lessen the adverse impacts to the community.
Public and agency stakeholder consultation, including communications with Indigenous Communities will be an important part of the Class EA process.
Your input is important
As part of the study, online public engagement has been arranged to allow interested members of the public to review and comment on the alternatives, including the preferred alternative, the evaluation process, and next steps in the study process.
Public engagement presentation
Please submit any comments or concerns by June 24, 2025. Any input received by that date will be incorporated into the Project File Report, which will be available for public review when the study is completed.
