Key messages
- On February 22, 2026, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recalled Kendamil brand – Infant formula with whole milk due to contamination with cereulide toxin. As of this date, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product in Canada.
- Anyone using or distributing Kendamil brand infant formula are advised to review the recall alert to determine whether their formula is affected.
- Families using formula purchased outside of Canada are advised to check recall notices issued in the country of purchase.
- A clinic poster is available to remind parents and guardians to report vaccinations to Peel Public Health.
Advisory: Kendamil brand infant formula with whole milk recalled in Canada
Be advised that as of February 22, 2026, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled Kendamil brand – Infant formula with whole milk due to the presence of cereulide toxin.
- Cereulide is a toxin produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus. The toxin is highly heat-stable and not destroyed by cooking or preparing infant formula.
- Symptoms usually begin quickly after ingestion and most often involve gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.
- Testing for cereulide toxin in food or clinical samples is not currently available in Canada.
- There have been no illnesses in Canada linked to the recalled products to date.
- As of February 2026, Kendamil is the only formula brand recalled in Canada due to cereulide toxin.

Infant formula from other brands recalled globally
- Since December 2025, global recalls have affected multiple infant formula brands due to cereulide toxin contamination.
- The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is investigating illnesses and hospitalizations in infants linked to the consumption of contaminated infant formula in Europe. None of the recalled infant formulas and products linked to the ECDC investigation are distributed in Canada.
- There has been no link identified between these products and the Kendamil products recalled in Canada.
Recommendations for health care providers, families and caregivers
Families and caregivers are advised to determine if they are currently using recalled infant formula and stop using any recalled products.
- Health care providers, families and caregivers using Kendamil formula should visit the Government of Canada’s recall alert to see if they are using or distributing the recalled product and find next steps.
- Families and caregivers using formula purchased outside Canada should review recall notices for the country of purchase.
- Do not consume, serve, use, distribute or feed infants any recalled products.
- Discard or return recalled formula to the location where they were purchased.
- Families and caregivers are advised to contact a healthcare provider if their child is sick.
- Hospitals with food service departments are advised to subscribe to food recall notices via the Government of Canada website.
Reminder: School vaccination reporting poster for your office
- Peel Public Health has developed a poster to help parents and guardians comply with immunization requirements for school and childcare attendance.
- Remind parents that doctors do not report vaccinations to Public Health.
- Parents must report every time their child receives a vaccine to ensure their records are up to date with Peel Public Health.
- Download and print the poster and place in high-visibility locations within your clinic, such as waiting rooms, exam rooms and vaccination areas.
