Enriching Peel’s community through art
Located in downtown Brampton, across from the scenic Gage Park and Brampton City Hall, the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) is a welcoming space for Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon residents.
PAMA has a long-standing relationship with its art donors. They’ve always played a vital role in contributing to the community through art and culture, helping residents discover Peel’s rich heritage.
A legacy of art and friendship
David and Carol Dickson’s art donations reflect their deep connection to PAMA and the Peel community. As long-term residents of Brampton, the Dickson family wanted to make art accessible to the Peel community and foster a cultural appreciation among residents and families.
David fondly recalls meeting artist David Blackwood for the first time when he was a university student. Over time, they formed a friendship, and David eventually collected nearly 20 of Blackwood's prints and watercolours.
As a long-time volunteer with the Friends of PAMA Advisory Board, Carol always wanted to give back to the community. This coincidence motivated the Dickson family to donate Blackwood’s valuable artworks to PAMA and share their passion for art with the broader community.
Celebrating prints and partnerships
PAMA’s David Blackwood: Ode to Newfoundland exhibition runs from November 23, 2024, to March 23, 2025. It features some of Blackwood’s best intaglio prints and watercolour paintings donated by the Dickson family.
Ode to Newfoundland not only highlights the works of Blackwood as an accomplished Canadian artist but also emphasizes the vital role of art donors and PAMA in enriching Peel’s cultural landscape.
This was an obvious choice to donate to this gallery because it offers the community a great space to come and appreciate art.
