Regional Auditor General Recruitment Committee
Proposed Terms of Reference
Mandate
With the assistance of an Executive Search firm retained by the Region of Peel, the Committee will review applications, develop a short list of candidates and conduct interviews for the position of Auditor General for the Region of Peel. The Committee will recommend a candidate to Regional Council for appointment by Regional Council.
Membership
It is proposed that the Committee is comprised of the Regional Chair (ex-officio) and 8 members of Regional Council, with at least one member from each local municipality.
Roles and responsibilities of members
The Committee is responsible for managing the process that will be followed to recruit a candidate for the position of Auditor General for the Region of Peel. The Committee will review applications, develop a short-list of candidates, conduct interviews with qualified candidates, and recommend a candidate to Regional Council for appointment. The Committee will provide guidance to the Executive Search firm, as required, through the Director of Human Resources.
Election of Chair and Vice Chair
The Committee will elect from among its members a Chair and Vice-Chair and this election shall be held at the first meeting of the Committee. The Vice-Chair may act in the capacity of Chair and exercise all the rights, powers and authorities of the Chair when the Chair is absent through illness or otherwise, is absent from the office in the course of their duties or on vacation or on a leave.
Quorum
Quorum will consist of a majority of the total number of members of the Committee.
Reporting structure
The Committee will report to Regional Council with a recommended candidate for appointment to the position of Auditor General for the Region of Peel.
Term
The Committee will be dissolved upon Regional Council’s appointment of an Auditor General.
Frequency of meetings
Will be determined by the Committee in consultation with the Regional Clerk’s Office.
Staff resources
The Committee will be supported by the Director of Human Resources and staff from the Office of the Regional Clerk, as required.
