Peel Housing Corporation
The growing need for affordable housing has been recognized consistently in Peel since the inception of Regional government. At that time, it had become apparent that the housing needs of a number of Peel residents were not being met by the private sector. In response, Regional Council passed a resolution in November 1975 to incorporate a non-profit housing organization, Peel Non-Profit Housing Corporation, being a separate entity or governing Board from that of the Regional Municipality of Peel. On January 1, 2003, Peel Regional Housing Corporation (PRHC), formerly the provincially operated Peel Regional Housing Authority (PRHA), amalgamated with Peel Non-Profit Housing Corporation to form the Peel Housing Corporation (PHC). Effective June 27, 2019, governance By-law 1-2019, relating generally to the transaction of the business and affairs of Peel Housing Corporation, was enacted. Peel Housing Corporation is responsible for the administration of the Region’s public housing. The General Manager has overall responsibilities in the delivery of social, business/financial and property management services to residents and the Region of Peel.
The members of the Peel Housing Corporation Board of Directors are appointed for a three-year term; shall remain in office until a successor is appointed; and, may be re-appointed to the Board at the expiration of his or her term of office.
