Combatting food insecurity
Peel Region continues making significant community investments; however, food insecurity cannot be eliminated through community-level interventions alone.
All levels of government must act to alleviate the burden on municipalities and food banks by investing in stronger social and health programs and poverty reduction policies. The growing number of Peel households concerned about running out of food, coupled with the rising strain on food banks, highlights the urgent need for a wide-ranging response to food insecurity.
Actions we're taking

Addressing the root cause of food insecurity must include adequate income to cover basic costs of living, such as higher minimum wage, higher social assistance rates.
