While 2023 may have been a difficult and uncertain year for Peel Region, it was also a year of success and achievement. As a community, we have a lot to be proud of.
The Year in Review report shares our achievements, financial accomplishments, and recognizes the exceptional service delivery we maintained to support our residents and meet the needs of our community.
Throughout the year, Peel Region employees demonstrated passion and dedication, drove change, remained innovative, and worked diligently to impact the everyday lives of residents across the community.
The Year in Review showcases Peel’s 2023 accomplishments and awards and was presented to Peel Region Council on February 22, 2024.

Accomplishments
- Delivered water and wastewater services at a rate which is 30% lower than the GTA average per household.
- Reduced energy use on peak demand days resulting in a cost avoidance of $1.84 million.
- Supported over 2,300 asylum claimants.
- Secured 50 Zero Emission Vehicles for Peel Region and Peel Regional Police reducing an estimated 418 tonnes of GHG emissions, equivalent to taking 128 gasoline powered cars off the road.
- Achieved a customer satisfaction rating of 97% for waste management services.
- Peel’s drinking water system received the highest possible inspection rating of 100% by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

Financial highlights
- $800 million in external funding to support ongoing service operations.
- $23 million to advance climate action and other initiatives.
- 637 affordable housing units and received $6 million in financial contributions for affordable housing initiatives.
- 31 continuous improvement initiatives were completed with $0.9 million in cost savings and $3.3 million in cost avoidance.
- Recognized for the 28th consecutive year by S&P and Moody’s for our Triple A credit rating.

- Peel Region’s Water and Wastewater Division was awarded Infrastructure Award of Excellence from the Greater Toronto Sewer and Water Construction Association.
- Green Cities Award from Credit Valley Conservation for implementing leading edge green infrastructure.
- G.E. Booth Water Resource Recovery Facility receives project of the year award from Ontario Public Works Association.
- Director, Climate Change, Christine Tu, earned Top 50 Women Leaders of Toronto award.
- Registered Nurses Association of Ontario recognizes Peel Region’s long term care homes best practices.
