Statement from Peel Region on the Passing of Pope Francis
BRAMPTON, ON (Apr. 21, 2025) – Peel Region Chair, Nando Iannicca, along with Regional Council and staff acknowledge the passing of Pope Francis, a global figure whose dedication to service crossed borders, faiths, and generations.
In a complex world, Pope Francis was a beacon of humility, compassion, and courage. He dedicated his life to the service of others, using his voice to advocate for the poor, the displaced, and those too often overlooked. His enduring message of peace, justice, and inclusion resonated with millions around the world, regardless of background or belief.
In honour of Pope Francis, all flags at regional buildings will be lowered for seven days.
On behalf of Peel Region, I extend my condolences to all those mourning Pope Francis' loss. May we honour his legacy by continuing to build communities grounded in empathy, equity, and hope.
Nando Iannicca, Regional Chair and CEO, Peel Region
