Peel Regional Solicitor Receives National Recognition

BRAMPTON, ON (May 2, 2025) - Patricia Caza, Peel’s Regional Solicitor and Commissioner of Legislative Services, has been selected as one of nine excellence awardees shortlisted for the Law Department Leader of the Year by the Canadian Law Awards.

As Regional Solicitor, Patricia Caza serves as the Chief Legal Officer of the corporation and provides advice to Regional Council to inform decision-making. She and the Legal Services team she leads ensure the protection of Peel Region’s legal interests, including though advocacy at all levels of courts and tribunals. As Commissioner of Legislative Services, Patricia Caza also leads Procurement, Clerks, Privacy & Access to Information, Archives, Corporate Policy, Real Estate, Facility Services, Design & Construction Delivery and Regional Emergency Management.

Among its 2024 achievements, the Legal Services team has: supported the creation of Spectrum Way Asylum Seeker Reception Centre, a groundbreaking facility creating a safe and supportive space for up to 680 vulnerable newcomers; navigated legal complexities associated with the issuance of a $450 million debenture that used creative approaches when traditional capital markets were inaccessible; and advanced meaningful consultation with Indigenous communities on construction projects, including field monitoring, archaeological assessment and environmental review.
