Peel Region recognized for excellence in budget presentation and financial reporting

BRAMPTON, ON. (April 10, 2026) – Peel Region has been recognized for excellence in budget presentation and financial reporting with multiple awards from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).  

Peel received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2025 Budget, recognizing Peel’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The award reflects how Peel’s budget serves as a clear policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications tool for residents and stakeholders.

In addition, Peel earned Outstanding Achievement awards for both its 2024 Annual Financial Report and 2024 Popular Annual Financial Report. 

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CANFR) recognizes excellence in government accounting and financial reporting and was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports. Peel’s 2024 Annual Financial Report has been judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate Peel’s financial story and to motivate the community to read the report.

The Popular Annual Financial Report Award (PAFR) recognizes outstanding achievement in summarizing financial, investment, and statistical information from the comprehensive report. 

GFOA is a professional association that advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve.  

These latest honours build on Peel’s strong track record, marking the 21st time it has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting and the third time it has earned the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award.
