The Ontario government has changed who is responsible for recycling
BRAMPTON, ON (Dec. 3, 2025) - Starting January 1, 2026, Peel Region, along with other Ontario municipalities, will transition responsibility for residential recycling to Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization. Despite this change in service provider, Peel residents will continue using their existing blue recycling bins, and their collection day will stay the same.
This provincial mandate for recycling was finalized in 2021, as part of the Ontario’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model. EPR requires the packaging and paper producers to pay for and manage recycling, including curbside collection. Circular Materials will run the program for producers.
Peel Region will provide recycling services until Dec. 31, 2025. There is no change to garbage, organics and yard waste services.
How to get recycling help in 2026
After January 1, 2026, any recycling collection and bin issues should be directed to GFL, the new collection contractor for recycling in Peel. Residents can reach out via email at peelrecycling@gflenv.com or call 1-877-268-4351.
For general questions about Ontario’s new recycling system, residents can contact Circular Materials at customerservice@circularmaterials.ca or call 1-877-667-2626.
For more information, visit Circular Materials.
Peel Region has been providing recycling collection services since 1994, and we understand the change to a new service provider may be confusing. Peel will support residents in 2026 by redirecting recycling inquiries, via web, phone or in person to GFL or Circular Materials.
