Basswood Senior Residences reflects Peel Region’s response to the urgent need for community housing
BRAMPTON, ON (June 8, 2026) – Basswood Senior Residences is a 9-storey affordable rental building that will create 198 affordable rental units for seniors in Brampton and is expected to be complete in 2028.
Peel is facing two housing crises: unprecedented housing prices impacting moderate income households, and a lack of community housing – which is deeply affordable housing for people with low incomes not provided by the private market. At the end of 2025, there were 1761 active senior households in Brampton on the Centralized Wait List. Basswood Senior Residences reflects Peel Region’s response to this urgent need for community housing, leveraging Peel-owned land to create homes for seniors facing rising housing costs and limited supply.
Basswood Senior Residences is being constructed as part of the Seniors Health and Wellness Village (SHWV) at Peel. The village includes Peel Manor long-term care centre, a service hub for seniors, and Adult Day Services programs. Realizing the original vision for the SHWV, Basswood’s story is shaped by the campus of care concept, which extends beyond the physical structure. It’s rooted in Peel’s commitment made many years ago, as part of the SHWV build, to supporting seniors with comprehensive services that empower them to age with dignity and remain healthy within their community.
The development uses modern methods of construction including:
- being the first purpose-built mass timber residential structure in Peel Region, a
- a panelized prefabricated building envelope,
- and a geothermal heating and cooling system to meet energy efficiency targets.
Basswood Senior Residences has been made possible in part through funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario.
The project is well under way, with design led by Kasian Architecture and construction being led by LCG Residential Builders Ltd. Recent milestones include completion of the mass timber structure through the eight floor and completion of the panelized building envelope up to the seventh floor.
