Project 22-2255 - October 20, 2025 update
Construction work in your area
Peel Region has identified the need for upgrades to the sanitary sewer and watermain system along The Queensway. As part of this program, we will be replacing a section of large diameter watermain at Stanfield Road and Queensway East. A map of this work is attached to this notice.
Watermains are underground pipes that bring tap water from our water treatment facility to your area. As our population grows, we need to build larger watermains to provide you with high-quality water. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home or business to a water resource recovery facility. Wastewater is created when water goes down a drain or toilet. As our population grows, we need to build larger sewers to provide you with high quality wastewater services.
Construction schedule
Construction is planned to start on or around November 3, 2025, and finish by Fall 2027. These dates may change due to weather and other unexpected events.
Contractor working hours
The work will be completed by Pachino Construction Co. Ltd., JC Infrastructure Ltd. & Machina Construction Ltd. (Joint Venture) under contract to Peel Region. Working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with local municipal bylaws. Construction will be completed underground in tunnels and will not require digging trenches. Aboveground activities will mainly be limited to a few fenced areas.
Traffic and parking
Access to Stanfield Road from the Queensway will be impacted to complete this work. Detour routes will be provided for those intending to travel northbound on Stanfield Rd from Queensway East or southbound on Stanfield Rd when travelling westbound on the Queensway.
An additional notice will be sent out with the start and end dates of the traffic impacts. Detour maps will be provided, and signage will be posted on site.
Interrupting your water supply
We may need to temporarily shut off your water.
For residents:
- If we need to shut off your water for several hours, our goal is to let you know 48 hours (2 days) in advance. Sometimes, we must reduce this notice to 24 hours.
- If we need to shut off your water for a short time (less than one hour), we’ll knock on your door.
For businesses:
- If your business needs a continuous water supply and you have not already completed a water needs survey, please let us know when and how your business uses water.
- If we need to shut off your water due to an emergency, we’ll knock on your door and do everything we can to fix the problem quickly.
Construction safety
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe. Be aware of your surroundings when driving, walking, or biking near the construction area. Watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, and consider other routes. Learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones.
