Project 19-2158 – May 2026 update
As part of the Flow | Central Brampton Program, Peel Region is installing a new sanitary sewer under Malta Avenue, the multi-use pathway next to Fletcher’s Creek Senior Public School, and the easement next to Fletcher’s Creek.
Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home to a water resource recovery facility. Wastewater is created when water goes down a drain or toilet. As our population grows, we need to build larger sewers to provide you with high-quality wastewater services.
Current work
In May, the project will continue its final construction phase. Crews will:
- Finish applying protective coatings to key underground structures to help protect the new sewer system.
- Complete final inspections of the underground structures, including CCTV (camera) inspections of surrounding underground assets.
- Complete restoration of the compound located at the end of Malta Avenue, including removing all material and equipment offsite and reseeding the vacant area.
Crews are expected to leave the site by mid-May.
Upcoming work
Crews will leave the site by mid-May but will return in July to restore the compound behind the Fletcher’s Creek Senior Public School and the nearby pathway beside Azores Park. This timing is required to meet environmental regulations that protect habitat and species along Fletcher’s Creek. Work is expected to take place between July and September.
The pathway and compound behind the school will remain closed from May to July for public safety, as shown in the map.
Completed work
In April, crews cleaned up and removed equipment from the Azores Park compound near Malta Avenue and Sir Lou Drive. The sidewalk along Malta Avenue has been temporarily reinstated, as the Park has been handed over to another independent group for their work. Once their work is finished, the sidewalk will be fully restored.
The intersection has been restored to its original layout; however, the road line repainting needs warmer, drier weather. This work is expected to be completed in May.
Crews installed maintenance hole structures at the compounds near the end of Malta Avenue and the baseball field. The access point structures have been filled and removed, and the compounds have been levelled. Crews have finished work near the baseball field and are completing restoration at the end of Malta Avenue. Touch-ups to the sewer’s protective coatings have resumed. This work, which is non-invasive and completed underground, will continue into May.
Staying safe during construction
As the project moves into its final stages, you may see construction crews, equipment, and trucks, and experience minor noise, vibration, and dust, particularly near the end of Malta Avenue.
The pathway beside Azores Park and Fletcher’s Creek Senior Public School will remain temporarily closed or detoured, with signage to guide pedestrians.
Water service interruptions are not expected, as underground construction is complete. If an emergency occurs, service will be restored as quickly as possible. Updates will be shared if there are any significant changes.
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe. Be aware of your surroundings when driving, walking, or biking near the construction area. Watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, and consider other routes. Learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones.
