Current work
Crews are completing the remaining restoration work throughout August. This work includes:
- Grading and hydroseeding the compounds adjacent to the baseball diamonds.
- Removing remaining excess materials and stockpiles from the work areas.
- Repaving the multi-use pathway between the baseball field and Malta Avenue.
- Completing hydroseeding and landscaping along the multi-use pathway.
Community members may continue to see construction equipment and short-term pathway closures while this work is completed.
Upcoming work
The final phase of restoration is expected to take place throughout August. Crews plan to:
- Remove temporary light poles and reinstate the permanent streetlights at the Malta Avenue and Sir Lou Drive intersection.
- Complete curb restoration at the compounds near the baseball diamonds.
- Restore the curb and sidewalk in front of Azores Park.
- Complete final site cleanup and remove construction equipment and materials from all remaining work areas.
The project team is targeting end of August for completion of all restoration activities, although the schedule remains subject to weather and site conditions.
Completed work
Construction of the Malta Avenue sanitary sewer was completed on May 21, 2026. All underground work is finished, including inspections and testing. Since then, crews have focused on restoring the work areas and removing temporary construction infrastructure.
In May, crews:
- Removed generators, temporary washrooms and site trailers from the construction staging area near 2 Tina Court.
- Removed temporary stone and restored the construction staging area near 2 Tina Court and the temporary work areas located beyond the baseball field.
- Applied hydroseed to the area near 2 Tina Court to support new grass growth.
- Fully removed construction equipment and facilities from the area near 2 Tina Court.
No work took place in June, as restoration beyond the baseball field was temporarily postponed to comply with environmental regulations that protect habitat along Fletcher's Creek.
In July, crews returned to continue restoration activities. Work completed to date includes:
- Installing guiderail at the construction staging area near 2 Tina Court.
- Removing all temporary jersey barriers along the multi-use pathway.
- Removing all temporary construction fencing.
- Installing an access path to provide future maintenance vehicle access to the sewer system, when needed.
- Removing temporary asphalt from the multi-use pathway and temporary access routes installed during construction.
Staying safe during construction
As the project moves into its final stages, you may see construction crews, equipment, and trucks, and experience minor noise, vibration, and dust.
Water service interruptions are not expected, as underground construction is complete. If an emergency occurs, service will be restored as quickly as possible. Updates will be shared if there are any significant changes.
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe. Be aware of your surroundings when driving, walking, or biking near the construction area. Watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, and consider other routes. Learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones.
