Project 10-1205 C5 – August 28, 2026 update
Streets affected: Applewood Hills Trail north of Queen Frederica Drive
Construction work in your area
Peel Region has been working in our area on major upgrades to the Hanlan watermains, part of Peel’s most critical infrastructure. We will be doing watermain maintenance work on Applewood Hills Trail north of Queen Frederica Drive, as shown on the attached map. Watermains are underground pipes that bring tap water from our water treatment facility to your area. As pipes age, we need to replace them to provide you with high-quality water.
Construction schedule
Construction is planned to start Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and finish at the end of 2026. These dates may change due to weather and other unexpected events. All work is warrantied for two years from the completion date.
Existing path closure and new temporary path
The Applewood Hills Trail north of Queen Frederica will remain closed for the duration of the construction project. A temporary path will be built alongside the existing path, as shown on the attached map. The construction area will be marked off with steel fencing to help keep park users safe. Pedestrians may see construction crews and equipment working within the park during this time. Please follow all posted signage.
Contractor working hours
The work will be completed by Clearway construction and designed by Jacob’s Consultancy, both under contract to Peel Region. Working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with local municipal bylaws and help shorten the amount of time construction is in your area.
Traffic and parking
We may need to temporarily close roads or reduce traffic to a single lane. If this is needed, we will place signs giving directions. On-street parking will be reduced when we are working on Queen Frederica Drive.
Vibrations, noise, and dust
You could feel slight vibrations and experience some minor noise and dust from construction work.
Construction safety
Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe. Be aware of your surroundings when driving, walking, or biking near the construction area. Watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, and consider other routes. Learn more about how to stay safe in work zone safety.
Repairing impacted areas
Repairs may be delayed due to seasonal weather conditions. For example:
- Paving cannot take place when the ground is saturated with water, or the temperature is below 3°C.
- Asphalt is not available in large volumes during the winter and usually becomes available in mid-May.
Most sod (grass) farms have sod available beginning in late May. We replace sod until the middle of November, weather permitting, to let the roots grow. If we do not replace it by the middle of November, we’ll replace it the following spring.
