Sustainable housing infrastructure
Peel Region supports the Province of Ontario’s housing objectives and remains committed to delivering the infrastructure required to enable growth
Predictable sustainable infrastructure funding helps municipalities deliver housing and build strong, complete communities.
Actions we're taking
Peel Region faces a $9.7 billion infrastructure repair and renewal gap over the next 20 years. At the same time, municipal revenues have not kept up with population growth, inflation, or rising service costs. With limited ability to fund the infrastructure needed to support new housing, Peel Region needs financial support from the Province.
Peel Region is requesting these key actions from the provincial government:
- Work with federal and municipal partners to close infrastructure funding gaps
- Provide stable, multi-year infrastructure funding that municipalities can plan around.
- Increase funding to keep up with inflation and rising construction costs
- Simplify funding applications and agreements to get projects built faster
- Help cover ongoing operating costs that come with new infrastructure
