Sanitary sewer replacement and improvement

Cornwall Road. Project 19-2300E

The Region of Peel will be repairing driveways, roads, curbs, sidewalks, and sod (grass) following the replacement of the sanitary sewer on Cornwall Road

Restoration schedule

The preliminary soft surface restoration work has begun with removing damaged sod and levelling out low spots. Topsoil will then be placed in the previously excavated areas. Restoration work will continue by fixing sidewalks, curbs and gutters.  This will be followed by driveway paving, and then road restoration in early May. Lastly, sod will then be replaced where topsoil has been placed in mid to late May. This process will take approximately five weeks if weather conditions are favourable. We plan to complete all restoration work by the end of May, 2023.

As restoration work progresses, we may provide more detailed timelines through email. Receive these timely updates by signing up for e-notices.

Contractor and working hours

The work will be overseen by Trisan under contract to the Region of Peel. This contractor’s normal working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with the local municipality’s bylaws. We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but shorter working days would require your street to be under construction for a longer period of time.

Traffic and parking

We may need to reduce traffic to a single lane during this work. If we must reroute traffic, we will place signs giving directions. On-street parking will be reduced when we are actively working on your street. If you need to park on the street, please park outside the active construction zone.

In-ground sprinkler systems

If the area in front of your home was affected by the construction work, in-ground sprinkler lines may be impacted during the upcoming repairs to sod, driveways, and curbs. We strongly recommend moving any sprinkler lines that are located next to the sidewalk or driveway, or within the municipally owned right-of-way. The right-of-way is the land owned by the municipality between the street and your water service box (small, round metal valve in either your driveway or lawn).

If you can’t relocate these sprinkler lines, please:

This will allow us to minimize the impact to your sprinkler system.

Replacing and taking care of your sod

The contractor will replace any damaged sod (grass) on the boulevard or your front lawn, and will take care of the new sod for 30 days. You can help the sod stay healthy by watering it. A longer ‘deep root watering’ works better to establish new sod than watering more frequently for a shorter time. Watering in the early morning allows more water to soak in rather than evaporating.

Driveway repairs

If you would like to have the rest of your driveway paved, please contact the contractor, Vox Construction at (416) 989-1966 who will be completing the driveway paving. Please remember this is your option. If you decide to have your entire driveway repaved, this extra paving work is your responsibility and outside the jurisdiction of the Region of Peel.

Driveway access and parking

We may need to block your driveway for a short time during paving activities. Whenever possible, we will work to ensure businesses can be accessed.

Please avoid parking in your driveway when it is being repaired to provide maximum access to the construction crew. The construction crew will knock on your door before work on your driveway begins. If you will not be home weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. during driveway paving, please do not leave any vehicles in the driveway.

Once the driveway is repaired, it is important to avoid driving on the new asphalt for the first three hours afterwards, and to avoid parking on the new asphalt for one day.

To provide an alternate parking location, we have arranged for a street parking enforcement exemption from the City of Brampton for Cornwall Road. This exemption will only be valid until the paving is complete. Please note that all other parking laws remain in place, including proper clearance from hydrants and stop signs.

Please email construction@peelregion.ca if you have special needs related to driveway access.

Road repairs

We will repair the road where it was disturbed by our recent sanitary sewer construction. We expect these paving activities to begin early May. The Region of Peel will complete final asphalt restoration from Leinster Road to Nanwood Drive as a part of this project. The City of Brampton will be completing final asphalt restoration along Cornwall Heights, as well as Cornwall Road to Leinster Road in 2025, and will send you a separate notice about this construction.

Warranty on construction repairs

Repair work completed as part of this sanitary sewer replacement project is under warranty for two years from the completion date. At times, it is possible for repaired areas to settle slightly. If you notice a settlement forming where the driveway, street, or lawn was repaired, please let us know and we will ensure the contractor fixes this as soon as possible.

Safety during construction

Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible. Learn more about how to stay safe in construction zones.

Staying informed

We will let you know if there are any major changes to the plans. Information on this construction project can also be found on the project webpage.

Thank you for your patience as we complete this restoration work. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.
