What's On at PAMA this June + Last Call for PAMA Kids Summer Camp

BRAMPTON, ON (May 29, 2024) – Join Peel Art Gallery, Museums and Archives (PAMA) this June for an engaging lineup of events and programs. This month promises to offer something for everyone and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Peel Region. June is marked as Indigenous Heritage Month; throughout this month and all year long, PAMA provides opportunities for visitors to connect with Indigenous art, culture, and history. We are also excited to announce that our Summer Camp is on this July, so make sure to register now!

As we lead up to the opening of the exciting new Stories of Home exhibition in July, we have some unique events and workshops created in partnership with Living Hyphen and Sheridan College:

Stories of Home: A Storytelling Celebration
June 2, 2 - 4 p.m.

Celebrate the newcomer experience in Peel and beyond with Living Hyphen. Through stories and poetry, enjoy a vibrant portrayal of community, diversity, and resilience.
Included with general admission. Registration required.

Stories of Home Workshop: Embroidery on Paper
June 15, 2 - 4 p.m.

Creativity meets needlework in this unique form of art! Join Meltem Unal as she guides you through the creation process. You will be provided with a pre-made and punched template with a matte beige acrylic background for your project, created from one of the artist’s original designs of a vase with flowers. This hands-on experience will allow everyone to tap into their creative potential while learning a new skill. No prior experience necessary.
Recommended for ages 12 and up. Registration required.
Public: $17.50 +HST, Members: $15 +HST

Stories of Home Workshop: Book Binding
June 27, 6 – 8 p.m.
Spend an evening learning the basics of case binding! Using eye-catching textiles and papers, participants will learn how to stitch, glue, and assemble their own pocket size art/notebooks in this beginner bookbinding workshop. Materials and step-by-step instructions will be provided. No prior experience necessary. Recommended for ages 12 and up. Registration required.
Public: $17.50 +HST, Members: $15 +HST

Additional Exciting June Programming

Pet Portrait Painting
June 1, 1 - 4:30 p.m.

Create a lifelike portrait of your pet with artist Christine Lobo in this acrylic painting workshop. Bring a photo of your furry friend or follow along with Christine's guidance.

Museum Memories with PAMA

Discover the behind-the-scenes history and fun tidbits about PAMA along with some items from our collection.

Dog Printmaking
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Inspired by the exhibition Oh My Dog! enjoy an exciting dog printmaking workshop! Explore unique printmaking techniques and design one-of-a-kind artwork featuring furry friends.
Registration required with Town of Caledon.

PA Day Drop-in Workshop with Youth Geographic Association
June 10, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Join the Youth Geographic Society for canine mysteries, furry friend-inspired art, and exploring plant ecosystems while planting seeds.

Recommended for kids ages 6 - 13. Public: $5, Included with general admission
Members: $3. Guardians must accompany children. Registration required.

Connections Art and Book Club
June 13, 7 - 8:30 p.m.

Connect literature and art with Brampton Library and PAMA. Tour the exhibit Lii Buflo and explore Métis traditions, language revitalization, and buffalo conservation efforts. The night is paired with a discussion of Chelsea Vowel's "Buffalo Is the New Buffalo". Free admission. Registration is required at Brampton Public Library.

PAMA Kids Summer Camp
July 8 - August 2 (Camp runs Monday to Friday, 8:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

This summer, young artists and museum explorers will imagine, discover, and play! Inspired by PAMA’s exhibitions and collections, campers will engage in a variety of daily activities at PAMA. For kids ages 6 – 12. Registration is required. Registration ends 7/12/2024 at 3 p.m. Public: $246, Members: $209.
