Bill 185 confirms Peel Region will not be dissolved

Brampton, ON. (June 11, 2024) – Last week, Bill 185, the Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act, 2024, received Royal Assent, confirming that Peel Region will not be dissolved. The enactment of Bill 185 revises the Hazel McCallion Act (Peel Dissolution) 2023, and ensures that Peel Region's governance, services, and operations will continue, and provides clarity for residents and businesses going forward.

Bill 185 also amends several statutes affecting Peel Region, including the Development Charges Act, 1997, Planning Act, 1990, Municipal Act, 2001, ensuring the Region's continuity and stability.

Peel Region continues to work with the Province and municipal partners on the review of four services: land use planning, water and wastewater management (including stormwater), Regional roads, and waste management while awaiting recommendations from the Transition Board.

We are pleased with the passage of Bill 185, which confirms Peel Region will not be dissolved. This decision allows us to maintain the high quality of services and governance that residents and businesses rely on. Peel remains committed to working collaboratively with all its municipalities to foster growth, sustainability, and a high standard of living for all.
