Excess Load Permit
An Excess Load Moving Permit lets companies move oversized loads on Regional Roads that exceed the Ministry of Transportation accepted limits by height, length, width or weight.
The following information is required in order to obtain a Single, Multiple or Annual Excess Load Moving Permit:
- Excess Load Moving Permit Application Form (PDF)
- Vehicle Information an Excel spreadsheet listing all the vehicles being utilized with Year, Make, License and VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number)
- Region of Peel certificate of insurance - Insurance Certificate (PDF)
A Region of Peel certificate of insurance will only be accepted and must include the following coverage:
Region of Peel, City of Brampton, Town of Caledon and City of Mississauga (as additional insured) and:
Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance | $3,000,000.00 |
Comprehensive General Liability Insurance | $2,000,000.00 |
Total Insurance | $5,000,000.00 |

Load Dimension Limits
An Excess Load Moving Permit lets companies move oversized loads on Regional Roads that exceed the Ministry of Transportation accepted limits by height, length, width or weight.
Load Dimension Limits
The load dimensions for an annual permit are:
- WIDTH: 2.6m to 3.7m
- HEIGHT: 4.15m to 4.5m
- LENGTH: 23.0m to 25.0m
The axle weight must follow the Highway Traffic Act.
Getting an Excess Load Moving Permit
Annual permit
An Annual Permit is valid for 1 year for loads that are oversized in width, height, and length.
- You must provide application at least ten (10) business days for processing.
- You need to provide proof of insurance with the Region of Peel added to the certificate as an additional insured with $5 million minimum.
- You need to pay the application fee
- The permit is valid for one year from the issue date.
Single permit
Single Permits are for one-time loads that exceed anyone of the maximum annual permit dimension limits for height, width, length, or weight. The axle weight must comply with the Highway Traffic Act.
- You must provide application at least three (3) business days for processing.
- You must provide us with the Regional Road full route boundaries.
- You must provide us with the overall width, height, length, and weight in metric.
- We will determine if you need a police escort during this move.
- You need to provide proof of insurance with the Region of Peel added to the certificate as an additional insured with $5 million minimum.
- You need to pay the application fee.
- If you'll be exiting from a provincial highway (i.e., 401, 403, or 410) onto a City of Mississauga Road or at the Mississauga border, you must get your permit from the City of Mississauga.
Multiple permit
A Multiple Permit is for 2 or more moves that are happening within a one-week period.
- You must complete the application a minimum of five (5) business days before the move date.
- The route must be the same, and all of the dimensions of the vehicle must be consistent.
- Axle weight must comply with the Highway Traffic Act.
- You must provide us with the Regional Road full route boundaries.
- You must provide us with the overall width, height, length, and weight in metric.
- We will determine if you need a police escort during this move.
- You need to provide proof of insurance with the Region of Peel added to the certificate as an additional insured with $5 million minimum.
- You need to pay the application fee.
