Sanitary sewer relining project

Rutherford Road South and Steeles Avenue East Area - Project 16-2300S

The Region of Peel will be working in your area to rehabilitate the existing sanitary sewer system near Rutherford Road South and Steeles Avenue East in the City of Brampton. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your business to a wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater is created when water is flushed down the toilet, or goes down the drain in your sink, tub, or shower.

This sanitary sewer work will be completed by Pipe Flo Contracting Corporation under contract to the Region of Peel. To extend the service life of the sewer, Pipe Flo Contracting Corp. will clean the existing sewer pipe on Rutherford Road South and place a new resin (plastic) lining within it. This work will be completed underground with specialized equipment, and will not require digging trenches in your area.

Construction schedule

We expect to conduct this work in your area from October 2022 to the end of November 2022.

Odours

You may smell some?odours?while the synthetic resin inside the sewer cures. These odours are temporary and will dissipate within a few hours. You can prevent or minimize these odours by making sure you have water in all of your drains, including your basement floor drain. We recommend pouring a bucket of water down the floor drain and running the water in all sinks, showers, and tubs for a minute, either the evening before or day of the relining work. If you are not able to put water down your floor drain (for example, if it is currently covered by flooring), we strongly recommend making it accessible before relining work begins to reduce the level of odours in your home.

Traffic and parking impacts

The contractor will be occupying portions of Steeles Avenue East, between Rutherford Road South and Resolution Drive. The work will be phased to minimize disruption to traffic. At minimum, one lane will be open in each direction during the rehabilitation work. There may be some minor delays along Steeles Avenue East. Most lanes in each direction will be reopened each day after the work is complete. Customers wishing to access the Walmart plaza at 15 Resolution Drive may experience some intermittent interruptions to the plaza entrance from Steeles Avenue East and are encouraged to access the plaza using the alternate entrance on Resolution Drive.

Safety during construction

Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible.
