-- Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) revised Friday February 17 2023

Infection prevention and control programs have contributed to significant progress in preventing the spread of infections. Today, we are more knowledgeable about how infections are spread and what we can do to stop them from spreading.

In partnership with the Infection Control Professionals in Peel’s acute care facilities, long-term care homes and community agencies, Peel Public Health promotes infection prevention, control and immunization messages to health professionals and people who live and work in Peel.

To prevent and control infectious diseases at work and at home:

  • Clean your hands often
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your sleeve, not your hands
  • Stay at home when you are sick
  • Clean and cover non-intact skin
  • Keep all immunizations up to date
  • Handle and prepare food safely
  • Routinely clean and disinfect your environment
  • Use antibiotics wisely: when needed and as prescribed
