Green Budgie, Gouache and watercolour
This is a painting of a pet budgie I did as a commission around December of 2019. This is my favourite painting as it was exciting to use such vibrant colours.

Portrait
I primarily use watercolours to create my artwork, but I also like to use other mediums such as pencil crayons, ink, and markers. I like to experiment with different portrait styles and compositions. I use many bright colours to convey a feeling of happiness or joy in my work. I hope to inspire more people to pick up a pencil or paintbrush to start expressing themselves through art.

Untitled
This work is part of a series of 21 paintings I started in the summer of 2019 as part of a solo exhibition for 2020. This piece was done in April of 2020 and was inspired by personal issues I had to deal with and represents a new beginning for me as well as an end to the past issues.

Tiny Plant
Tiny Plant is inspired by mom. She has many plants on the balcony and inside the apartment. She has planted three different coloured roses (white, red and pink), Japanese willow, lemon cypress and other more. This artwork highlights my emotions and the illusions that I carry on my shoulders. In a dark corner, living and breathing but still good.

Two Heroes
Two Heroes is an art piece I had originally created for myself for fun, but my grandfather asked me if I could create one for him. It is a depiction of both Saitama from One Punch Man (right) and my own character Kuta from a currently nameless series. The illustration was originally done by hand and then later scanned and coloured digitally.

Be Not Afraid of Going Slowly Series
Be Not Afraid of Going Slowly is a series that began in 2018. This is my first series as a Sumi-e artist and is inspired by the themes of peace and tranquility seen in Chinese painting. Painting this series has allowed me to escape into moments I wish I had lived. The simple and decisive strokes used in Chinese painting allow me to create pictures of calm moments during some of the most stressful, overwhelming years of my life.

How to Have a Taiwanese Christmas
How To Have a Taiwanese Christmas is a 2020 Christmas card design made for friends or family who had been a huge help to me getting through the first few months spent in Canada. I admire several artists like Nelson Wu who can capture the beauty of a culture through a simple illustration of food. The expressive simplicity and its appealing appearance had inspired me to make a piece myself. This work expresses a period of time in which I missed my home in Taipei terribly. I felt motivated to make an illustration of what we used to have back home when it's cold in the winter; a steaming bowl of douhua. To reminisce and share the warmth I experienced with my family or friends and I shared a bowl of Douhua in the cold.

Right Before Our Eyes
As an Iraqi-Canadian, I have been anxious to represent the constant state of war in Iraq. Right Before Our Eyes represents the Kurdistan protests that occur in Iraq. This is important because war can occur internally as well; it is not always an outside source.

Pride of a Nation
Pride of a Nation - I’m the feeling of excitement when you plan your itinerary before your trip and tell all your friends about the wonderful time your going to have. I’m the gas pumping into your tank, and the snacks being put in your cooler before you hit the road. I’m the long drive to your destination and the road signs telling you how many miles are left to go. I’m the parking meter, eating your change and spewing out your ticket when you finally arrive. And after all that anticipation, I’m the little voice in your head as you look around in disappointment thinking…

Class of 2020
In Class of 2020 you see a student with her eyes filled with hope for the future. Her face is gleaming with pride and joy and those emotions are conveyed through her eyes despite her face covering. However, through the eyes of the artist who created the piece, there is much more to it than what meets the eye.
Niranjana Nambiar
Class of 2020
The artist sees her inspiration, the graduates of this year, their hard work and their dedication in her piece. With each stroke of her pencil, the artist aspires to convey the bittersweet emotions of graduating this year. Taking two days to complete the piece, the artist wishes to implement all the occurrences of 2020 within her series. Quite aptly, this series is named "2020"
Nithuja Kalaiselvam
Expectations
This piece is created using pencil and pencil crayon, which shows the stress put upon youth of today. It is a way for the artist to express her thoughts in a creative way.

Together We Are Golden
Together We Are Golden is a work created in 2020. Inspired by the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold (Kintsugi), this acrylic on canvas piece is symbolic of the beauty and strength of our diverse community. Although many of us come from different cities, provinces, and countries, we come together to build a thriving society.

Hesitant Landscape
The sad look on the boy’s face, as well as the bold strokes and aesthetic help convey the melancholic feeling of the piece.

Macaw
Macaw is an experiment with colour and texture using Adobe Illustrator. I used different brush strokes and layers, and customized the gradients inspired by a photo of a real macaw. I hope this piece brings joy to the viewer in this stressful time.

Shadows of the Heart
Shadows of the Heart was created during a difficult stage in my life when I was struggling with my mental health. I transferred my pain onto the canvas. I wanted the heart to feel like you could touch it. If this piece was in a gallery, I would welcome visitors to feel the arteries.

Sana Ahmed
Tree Honouring, Photography, acrylic ink
The two pieces by artist/photographer Sana Ahmed are part of a larger series called Tree Honouring. Sana created the project to celebrate and honour the life of dead urban trees by bringing them back to life with a mix of photography and acrylic ink. The trees died from the 2013 ice storm, and an Emerald Ash Borer breakout in Brampton. As someone who loves trees, Sana hopes to raise awareness of the vulnerability of urban trees and promote protection and conservation.

Bleeding Roses
In the past, I worked with graphite to create hyper realistic pencil drawings where accuracy is vital. More recently, I grew more interested in exploring mediums where extensive control is required, such as watercolour, to create pieces of art that have a touch of abstraction while also being visually appealing.
