Daphne Lingwood (1917-2012)
Daphne Lingwood emigrated from Trinidad to Canada in the 1930s and later opened “Daphne of Canada” jewellery studio in Caledon East. Lingwood specialized in designing hand-made, shaped leather jewellery and accessories, sold across North America under the name “by Daphne”.
The company employed a team of local women who followed Lingwood’s designs and directions to make the jewelry in their homes. “Daphne of Canada” provided women with the opportunity to both earn an income and build their creative skills.
