Ontario Child Benefit

In 2007, the Ontario government announced the Ontario Child Benefit, a new investment strategy to support families in need. Residents of Ontario with children under 18 years of age may be eligible for the Ontario Child Benefit depending on their income.

As of July 2008, eligible families can receive up to $50/month per child from the Canada Revenue Agency. The amount a family will receive is dependent on the family's net income and the number of children under the age of 18.

You may be eligible for the Ontario Child Benefit if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • You are registered for the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB).
  • You and your spouse or common-law partner have filed an income tax return for the previous year.
  • You are the primary caregiver for one or more child under the age of 18.
  • You are a resident of Ontario.

If you require further information about the Ontario Child Benefit, please contact the Ministry of Children and Youth Services’ toll-free number at 1-866-821-7770 or 1-800-387-5559. Additional information can be obtained on their website.

Revised: Monday November 16 2009
