Lakelands Wastewater Pumping Station new offline storage facility

Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

Background

Peel Region has initiated a Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) study for the new offline storage facility required to alleviate capacity constraints at the Lakelands Wastewater Pumping Station (WWPS), in the City of Brampton. The existing WWPS requires upgrades to increase its firm peak flow capacity through various site works and the addition of an off-site 2-hour emergency storage facility. The MCEA Study will develop and evaluate potential off-site locations within the vicinity of the WWPS for the placement of the new offline storage facility considering technical constraints, the existing environment as well as stakeholder input.

Class EA study process

The Notice of Commencement is being issued to advise the starting of the Schedule B MCEA study. The Study will identify and evaluate alternatives and determine a preferred solution in consultation with the City of Brampton, regulatory agencies, the public, Indigenous Communities, and stakeholders. The MCEA Study is being conducted in compliance with Schedule B of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, amended 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2023), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.

Your input is important

Consultation with the public, review agencies, and Indigenous Communities is a key element of the MCEA Study process and input will be sought throughout this study. Details regarding a future Public Information Centre (PIC) will be advertised as the MCEA Study progresses. Upon completion of the MCEA Study, a Project File Report (PFR) will be prepared and placed on the public record for a minimum 30-day review period. The PFR will detail the planning and consultation process and the preferred alternative. Comments received through the course of the Study will be considered and documented in the PFR. Additional information related to the MCEA Study and consultation process may be obtained through this project webpage.
